Two Big Wells Hit In Week In Northern Montana Oil Field

The Pendroy region near Conrad in Teton county shows new oil activity with a Madison limestone well 2,331 feet deep delivering 110 barrels of water-free oil after acidizing. The Gus Johnson and Chet Thomas pools yield Phillips- Johnson wells 4 and 5 producing 90 to 130 barrels per day of pipeline oil, while Phillips No.3 tests tight dolomite. Natural gas at Thomas No.3 aids field economics. Big West Oil Co. expands leases amid rapid development and potential multiple pools in the area.

Postmaster C. Gibson Monkman announced new mail service limits effective November 1. Mail from Great Falls to Chateau will be delivered once daily at 8:30 a.m. and return mail from Chateau to Great Falls will depart once daily at 1:30 p.m.

Pheasant and Hun Seasons Open This Sunday

The Chinese pheasant and Hungarian partridge seasons begin at noon Sunday Oct 28 with specific shooting hours, bag limits, and regional exemptions. Pheasant hunting runs to Nov 12 with hens restricted. huns run through next Tuesday with a three day limit. Judge Grants Siebert Three Year Suspended Sentence

Homer Siebert of Fairfield pleaded guilty to first degree burglary for stealing about 2 500 in checks silver and currency from Greenfield Farmer's Oil Co. on Sept 23. Judge R M Hattersley suspended the sentence due to age, family, and first offense with 22 year old Siebert, who was captured after fleeing to Big Arm near Polson.

New Postoffice Boxes Boost Chateau Facility

The Chateau postoffice added 54 new boxes this week, bringing the total to 576 as Postmaster C. Gibson Monkman notes this should ease demand. Mrs. Johanny Nordhagen and her son Ray visited Helena with her daughter and family, then Ray departed Monday for Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he will be stationed.

Halloween Window Soap Prize Draw At Choteau Merchants

The Acantha reports 45 Choteau merchants offer $1 prizes for Halloween window art using soap or wax. Entries due by Oct 30 with initials on drawings, two windows per contestant, only one prize per child. Also notes 2,439 tourists registered at the Choteau Drug Co store in summer from 49 states and 18 foreign countries, led by 416 Canadians.

Canvass Underway for CROP Aid in Teton County

About 110 volunteers began a week-long CROP canvass in Teton County contacting 1,100 ranchers and farmers to raise roughly 12,000 bushels of wheat or other commodities for overseas relief. The drive, led by Arnold Hanusa with support from multiple church leaders, targets donations to be distributed by national CROP agencies.

Mrs Flannigan Dies After Weeklong Illness At 69

Esther A. Flannigan 69, wife of Charles J. Flannigan of Fairfield, died early Tuesday after a week of illness in a local hospital. Funeral services were held yesterday at 1 30 p.m. at Croxford chapel in Great Falls with burial in Highland cemetery. Born December 24 1881 in Republic Michigan she moved to Montana in 1910 and lived in Great Falls area until a year ago. Survived by husband a daughter Mildred E Betmer of Seattle a son Charles G Flannigan of Mossy Park Washington four grandchildren and three brothers Ruben Kingstedt Minneapolis Ed Kingstedt Los Angeles and Gilbert Kingstedt St Paul Minnesota.
