Chateau holds first in the division after a 7-0 win over Browning boosting its undefeated streak. Shelby and Conrad trail with one defeat. Brown ing and Cut Bank are eliminated. A win over Conrad on October 31 would clinch the title, loss opens a three way playoff.
The Helena Reserve squad is secured for a local field game tonight Thursday as a substitute for the Dutton match. The Helena B team lost a close game to Butte B, who also defeated Dillon and other strong B class teams. The Browning game ended with the Bulldogs driving for a score after a 3rd quarter fumble recovery by Chateau, with Leslie Stott scoring from 65 yards and the Teton band present to cheer.
Local warden Walt Everin says about 125 hunters have checked in at the Teton station near the forks, but snow scarcity hinders elk and deer tracking so kills are light. In the Sun River area about 1,500 have checked in with roughly a third reporting game. Pendroy residents Bill Mitchell and Bert Moon lead with a 210 pound buck and a 447 pound elk respectively. several other names appear among elk and deer brought to Wrixon’s lockers.
Henry Lubker of Bynum was dismissed October 16. Lola Haffner of Cleveland Montana was admitted October 17 and dismissed October 21. Mrs. Lee Weisner of Brady admitted October 18. John Matchett of Dupuyer admitted October 19. Mrs. Joe Barton of Great Falls admitted October 30. Mrs. Stanley Halvorson moved to Maynard hospital by ambulance Tuesday evening. Lester Boggart of Frelena admitted October 21. Mrs. Avion Scot gave birth to a ninth day boy October. William Gaffney gave birth to a baby boy October 20.
The American Red Cross plans its largest membership drive since World War I on November 11 to meet increased national defense needs. Teton county raises its quota from 750 to 1125 memberships, urged by county chair Mrs. A J Nutter.
Steve Lindseth 82 pioneer of Burton Beach died this morning at 3 30 at his daughter’s home in Chateau from infirmities of old age. Funeral services are set for Sunday at the Lutheran church in Chateau with Rev A Bernard Graydal officiating. Burial will be in Farmington cemetery. Born March 14 1859 in Mesfiord Norway he came to America in 1885 and to Miles City Montana then to Teton County in 1896. He homesteaded on Burton Beach and married Hannah Louise Olson in 1902. she died Dec 28 1938. Five children Della Gumhild S W Lindseth Albert Lindseth and Howard Lindseth survive along with a nephew Joe Lindseth and three grandchildren. Surviving siblings include Mrs A Youngren Henry Lindseth and two sisters in Norway.
The Montana Highway Traffic Advisory Committee to the War Department urges all truck and bus owners who received a questionnaire card in the past two weeks to fill in the information and mail it promptly. The time element is vital to the war department for a long range plan of transportation facilities during national emergencies. Deputy Registrar M. P. Trenne stresses that timely returns are essential as the survey runs across all forty eight states.
Migratory waterfowl and upland game will rest next Sunday as the pheasant and Hungarian partridge season opens. The state game commission set dates Oct 26 to Nov 16 with three cock pheasants and three partridges allowed per day and a six bird possession limit. Hen pheasants are prohibited and guns are restricted to three shells. Hours run from 7 am to dark on Sundays and Armistice Day, and from moon until dark on weekdays.
Supt. W J Shirley and Mayor Henry Robison urged Chateau school pupils to avoid property damage on Hallowe en next Thursday. Business leaders support safe fun while condemning window soaping and similar mischief. Last year pupils pledged not to cause damage, and officials hope for the same cooperation again.
Teton's Oldest Settlers meet on November 18 at the Masonic Hall. A banquet is set for 7 o clock and dancing to follow. Admission requires age 51, residency 80 in the state and 10 in the county, or a spouse or partner of a qualified Old Timer. Committees to be listed later.
The 4-H Builders Group will hold a regular meeting Wednesday evening October 29 at the high school. Elections for vice-president and secretary, constitution adoption, year plans, help for Achievement Day, and a report on a Memphis trip by Eileen Reiquam and Audrey Son are on the agenda. The group includes 15 to 21 year old members. Program and lunch committees are named.
Digest of Defense explains SPAB rules stopping new projects needing critical materials unless they prove necessity for national defense or civilian health. It cites a $60 billion defense budget, cautions on brass bronze aluminum uses, and quotes officials on price control and civilian sacrifice. Local Boy Scout troops convert savings to Defense Savings Stamps as defense effort.
The Home Arts group of the Woman's club will meet with Mrs. C. G. Monkman next Monday evening October 27 with Mrs. LeRoy Robinson as assisting hostess. The county nurse will give a talk on health.

The second jury term in Teton county opened with Judge R. M. Hattersley presiding. Trials were set for State of Montana cases against Hi Loomis and Denzil Mathison with defense and state counsel listed. A verdict of guilty was returned in the Mathison case after jurors deliberated about an hour.
The Teton County Sportsmen’s Association funds placards urging hunters to respect private property. Signs warn “Careless Bullets May Kill Cattle” and “Stock Will Stray Through Open Gates” with the message “Give the Landowners a Break.” Farmers may obtain the cards from H. M. Daley at the courthouse free of charge.
