Bush pilot spots signal in barren north mystery
Klem Aiken, a bush pilot flying solo toward Fort McMurray, discovers a lone fire signaling from the Barrens and lands to help a gaunt exiled man named Wolf Volger. The two men recount a missing partner, Bill Purvis, who vanished four weeks earlier while seeking a placer bed above Barren Creek. The encounter hints at danger, survival, and old ties in the extreme north.
