Saturday night featured the presentation Patsy Strings Along starring Muriel Nelson the grade school music teacher. Principal Miss Miller organized the event and deserved credit for securing Miss Nelson amid hopeful hints of Hollywood interest for talent.
A full house greeted Miss Muriel Patsy as she sat at the Hamilton organ kindly placed for her, a gracious gesture greatly appreciated by the audience.
Miss Nelson shines as Patsy in the play “Patsy Strings Along” with Billie Baillie and Stan Smith providing accompaniment. The ensemble, under Miss Larson's direction, delivers an admirable, well cast performance that enhances the school’s arts profile.
Sunday night featured music and song lasting two and a half hours. Mae Walton earned wide praise for coordinating performers of varied abilities. Mrs Butterdick was lauded for rehearsals and the performance. The piece touched on generational views with a sharp remark about youth.
The annual Red Cross roll call runs in Teton county from November 11 to 30 with a $500 goal. Miss Margar et Nagle chairs the chapter and has organized 500 membership cards and supplies. Community chairmen include Keith Hane, Mrs Olson, Mrs Thorne, and others across Fairfield Dutton Bynum Farmington. The drive supports local welfare work and emergency aid, with half the funds staying in the local chapter.
Forest Ranger George Duvendack will transfer to Missoula as assistant range examiner. He departs Chateau November 1 and returns November 10 for a brief handover with successor. William Gaffney will replace him, coming from Big Prairie on the Flathead and reporting November 10 after Yale study in game management.
A diagnostic clinic for crippled children under 21 will be held at St Marys hospital tomorrow for ages in Glacier Toole Teton Pondera and Chouteau counties. No treatment will be given. vocational guidance will be offered by the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation. Te ton attendees should report 11 to 12 with registration closing at 3 30 p m.
Mrs. Virgil Deschland of Kankakee Illinois gave birth to quadruplets. Three survivors are described as tall girls. The baby boy died about a week after birth.
Soren Matland, born 1900 in Great Falls and longtime Fairfield resident, died from injuries after an auto crash near Rupert Idaho while en route home to Ontario Oregon. He leaves a widow and three children, his father Matt Matland of Fairfield, a Idaho brother, and two sisters in Fairfield and Great Falls. Funeral was held in Ontario.
The Lions Club regular meeting Tuesday evening featured Mayor Julius Wuerthner of Great Falls as the principal speaker. He spoke on espionage and the European war, urging vigilance against spies, followed by a program of songs and skits by high school students.
Bernard Toenyes son of Mr and Mrs John Toenyes east of Chateau is a member of the agronomy judging team at Montana State College which won first place at the Portland International Livestock Exposition. He earns the right to compete in the Chicago International Exposition in December as a MSU junior and former Teton County High School student and FFA member.
Governor Ayers appoints H. C. Groff of Victor to the state public welfare board for a term ending March 4, 1941, succeeding Bert Gavin who resigned for personal business. Groff is a former state senator from Ravalli county.
A Monday evening city hall meeting formed a mayoral advisory group to prevent property destruction on Hallowe'en. Members include Mrs. Clara Baker, Mrs. John Hentges, Jerry Breen, C. D. McDonald, Bill Olsen, Mayor Sturgis, and school principals. Students and parents promised cooperation to deter pre Hallowe'en celebrations and safeguard local property.
Over two hundred big game hunters have checked out at Beaupre Hotel game station. Several reports include elk by P. R. Cox George Duven dack Chuck Davis and Dr E J Crary, a deer by Henry D Robinson, and a four elk four goat and one grizzly bear catch by a Great Falls party of Chas Tudor Gil Halverson Jim Denham and Geo Shovie. Additional elk by Joe Alley Earl Burner D N Henderson Albert Young Lee Walton Ed Meier Jack Roberts Wallace Anderson and A E Wissler. Deer by James Cheetham and H L Corn. John Moore of Choteau killed a big buck in the Teton area Sunday.
L. Kleffman, former Belt coach for three years and earlier at Simms and Choteau, visited Choteau to arrange his entry into local law practice. He was admitted to the bar by the state supreme court this summer and will move to Chateau this week, locating in the Hodgskiss building formerly occupied by the Swagger Shop.
The pheasant season for Chinese pheasants begins next Sunday October 29 and runs through Sunday November 12 with hunting allowed all day on Sundays and Armistice Day. No hunting before noon on other days. Bag limit three cocks, possession six cocks. No season for Hungarian partridge. The last day for duck hunting is Tuesday November 14. Ducks have yielded good shooting since recent snowfall.
Winter weather settles over Choteau with seven inches of snow and subzero temperatures. Snow began Tuesday night and totaled seven inches by Wednesday morning at the county agent’s weather station. Precipitation reached .45 inches, aiding winter wheat but hindering sugar beet harvest.
The sheriff election contest between J. L. Shell Billings and A. O. Peterson is set for trial before the state supreme court tomorrow. Delays followed the death of Petersons attorney Lou Molumby with Phil Greenan of Great Falls taking over. A final decision is expected in about two weeks and could set a precedent in similar cases.
Community planning committees run meetings from October 23 to November 4 to discuss the Unified County Program for 1940. They outline the weed law district proposals and detail the grasshopper program of 1910. A Scandinavian barn dance will be held at the Sons of Norway hall in Fairfield this Saturday night Oct. 28 featuring 20 fiddlers 10 jiggers and other amateur talent. Red headed women admitted free and many contests planned. Bierstedt's Accordion Band will close the evening with music.
Three Milwaukee Road officials visited on Monday to inspect the Chateau line. L. K. Sorenson of Butte C S Winship of Great Falls and D C Rhynsberger of Butte announced the plan to install a ten ton Fairbanks livestock scale in the Agawam stock yards this week.
About 1,600 people from across the county attended the seventh annual Teton Chautauqua in a three night program themed America Grew Great by Vision written and directed by A L Johnson of Fairfield. Highlights included Patsy Strings Along and a county chorus under Mae Walton with piano by Mrs Butlerdick. Awards awarded to top high school entrants and prize money distributed with funds to support the county recreational library.
The clerk Halver Daley issued three marriage licenses this past week. Tony Pecoia 27 of Harlowton and Mamie Siebenauer 20 of Power tied the knot on October 20. J R Cosgriffe 29 and Vera Lame 23 both of Augusta wed on October 20. Glenn R Durstine 34 of Idaho Falls and Vera N Wilson 24 of Choteau married on October 4.
Montana state veterinarian Dr W J Butler reports the livestock industry is returning as cattle enter winter in better condition than several seasons. He notes more grass, cured ranges, and drought recovery allowing foundation herds to rebuild. Cattle shipments into Montana continue daily with ample feed. expectations point to a bright next year for the industry.
