J H Burke Killed In Montana Car Crash

John H Burke prominent Helena stockman died after a car collision near Vaughn while returning from Great Falls. Three companions were injured. Burke died at hospital in Great Falls. Funeral services were held in Helena with statewide attendance.

Kharmont Wheat Test Proves Seed Superior Yield

The Teton County extension reports Kharmont winter wheat outyielded Turkey Red in a field trial near Choteau. Six acres of Kharmont matched two acres of Turkey Red under identical conditions, producing 33 bushels per acre versus 22, with Kharmont showing larger heads and firmer kernels and better winter hardiness. The test ran through last spring with final inspection this week.

At the naturalization term of the District Court to be held Saturday October 20 eight men and women will seek to become citizens. Great Northern Officials Visit Montana Conference

T O Larson and James Beckford attended a Great Northern Railway conference in Great Falls with eastern capitalists and Montana representatives. The meeting aimed to gather first hand data on agricultural and financial conditions and to show Montana’s progress despite eastern negative publicity. President Budd and other officers expressed confidence in Montana’s future prosperity and highlighted the state’s natural resources.

First Annual Corn Exhibit in Teton County

The first annual Teton County Corn and Potato show will be held in Chateau on Saturday November 3. Exhibits from this county will be entered in Great Falls as Teton County’s exhibit. Cash prizes and merchandise prizes will be awarded in multiple classes for dent, white Flint, yellow Dent, Flint, popcorn, sweet corn and longest six ears.

Choteau Welcomes Seventh District Women’s Clubs Delegates

The Acantha reports Chateau hosts a two day Montana Federation of Women’s Clubs seventh district convention. Five northern counties send delegates to map activities for the coming year and duties for Chateau as host. The federation has long promoted community projects statewide and the 1923 convention is deemed an honor for the city.

Sophomores elect officers and plan Halloween dance

High school notes report the first sophomores class meeting with officer elections and a Halloween masquerade. A matinee dance was held Friday with the school orchestra. On Saturday October 18 the team lost 6 to 0 to St Marys of Great Falls in a close game. The lineup included McDonald Stubbs Saterlie Moore Simmons Evenson Coffey Taylor Burns and reserves Wiprud Looney Mozzer Singer Yeager Cace. The next game is at Augusta.

Public School Notes Summary of Weekly Activities

The eighth grade enjoyed a Saturday football game despite a home loss. Margaret Taylor missed two days due to sickness. The sixth grade celebrated a quarter holiday for top attendance. Rands Wiley of the 4th grade plans an Oregon trip. Mr. Clark returned after three weeks to visit his father in Michigan. The eighth grade citizen league will meet Friday with a promising program. School health exams showed improvement over two years, with some cases needing follow up. Parents are urged to address every reported condition. The second grade now has a new sand table. Report cards were issued this week. failures expected to drop next time.

Udin wheat to be entered at Chicago show

Fairfield Times notes two sample pecks of Marquis and Peliss Durum wheat from the Al Udin crop near Fairfield will go to the International Grain show in Chicago. Peliss Durum earned second at Helena and experts call the grain real show quality weighing 65 pounds per bushel. Saskatchewan won last year’s spring wheat prize and Montana expects strong competition.

Saint Marys edged Teton County 6 to 0 on the local gridiron as Walsh of St. Marys broke a 30 yard run for the decisive score near the end of the first half. Both sides relied on end runs and few forward passes as Great Falls’s defense held firm and denied a late Teton scoring chance.

The annual convention of the Women's clubs of district seven convened in this city today and continues until tomorrow evening. Delegates from Teton Glacier Toole Liberty and Pondera counties attend with public meetings open, including a keynote by Rev Mecklenberg of Great Falls.

Our Religion Sermon Series At Community Methodist Church

The Community Methodist Episcopal Church led by Pastor Robert B. Culbertson continues a morning sermon series on Our Religion with a message titled Our Beliefs. Morning worship at 10 30 features the choir and the sermon Call to Service. Evening service at 7 30 includes the choir singing Even Me. District Court Rules on Liquor Seizures in Montana

Judge J J Green in district court October 11 ruled no property right exists in liquor unless lawfully acquired and contraband liquor is forfeited to the state. The sheriff may seize only with warrant or direct personal observation of a crime. seized goods must be destroyed within five days. Teton County Exhibit At Falls Corn Show

Teton county plans multiple entries at the Great Falls Corn Show on November 5 through 7. The First National Bank of Great Falls offers a $100 cash prize for a special exhibit of six ears, with the corn donated to the bank. Regular classes award prizes for ten ears in dent, flint, and sweet corn varieties, with ribbons for lower places and cash for top winners.
