Downtown stores joined in offering bargains and activities while prize winners included Edna Franklin first $25 Ben Hoge second $15 Mrs Joe Knudtzon third $10 and Laurie Gebhart Christy Gebhart splitting the $5 children’s prize.

Funeral Services Held for Couple At Fairfield
Funeral services were held for Mr Albert Steinbach 88 and his wife Mrs Steinbach 80 of Fairfield. Mrs Steinbach died Oct 5 at Teton County Rest Home and Mr Steinbach died Oct 5 in the rest home. They lived in the Fairfield area since 1910 and 1921 respectively and left a son Bill of Fairfield a grandchild and two great grand children. Both services were at United Church of Christ Fairfield with Rev James Nolan officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery Fairfield Banks Funeral Home handled arrangements.

J Crawford Elected Republican Chairman
James Crawford was chosen chairman of the Teton County Republican Central Committee at a Friday meeting October 6 at the Cornell Hotel, succeeding William F. Olsen who resigned after years of service. Nels Hemstad attended and spoke on legislative issues. Villager Building to Sell at Sheriff’s Sale
The Villager building on Main Avenue next to Teton Furniture will be sold at sheriff’s sale on Tuesday October 31 at 10 am at the front door of the courthouse in Chateau. The property includes the building on lots 10 and 11 block 12 Original Townsite of Choteau and 41.39 acres of land north of Choteau. It formerly belonged to Mr and Mrs John S Davison who declared bankruptcy about 20 years ago. Merchandise in the Villager was sold last spring.

September Highway Patrol report records nine injuries in nine crashes
Highway Patrolman Ray Farrell reports nine injuries across nine crashes in September the highest monthly total for the year. In Teton county nine summonses were issued for violations including no driver's license five counts excess night speed two and lack of farm implement flagmen over 12 feet wide two. One-offense items include reckless driving improper pass of a school bus and other infractions such as failure to dim headlights and operating with a fictitious license.

Safeway Names Roy Snyder New Manager
Roy Snyder a former Choteau resident was appointed manager of the Safeway store in Choteau replacing Duane Reisch who will transfer to Great Falls. Snyder, a Choteau native and Safeway employee for nine years, has also worked in Deer Lodge Hamilton and Missoula. He plans to move his family to Choteau within the month.

William Grossman Dies in Great Falls
William M. Grossman 70 of Power area Montana farmer died Tuesday in a Great Falls clinic. Born March 27 1897 in Crookston Minnesota he homesteaded near Power after moving to Montana in 1909. He married Clara Brown Maudlin February 9 1943 in Great Falls. Survived by widow and brothers Tony George and John all of Power. Funeral services pending.
