Fire saves tanks as Choteau elevator burns down
Firemen fought two blazes at the General Mills elevator in Choteau. The first blaze was controlled but a second, early Wednesday morning destroyed the 20,000 bushel structure. Five adjacent 10,000 gallon fuel tanks were kept from exploding by the fire crew and calm winds. Manager I. J. Ferguson saved the books before the building collapsed. No farmers lose wheat stored there. grain is insured and ready to be paid when sold. General Mills will rebuild a 50,000 bushel elevator on the same site by Thanksgiving.

County Purchas Choteau Hospital Sells Poor Farm
The county sells the Choteau hospital property to become the Teton Rest Home with Mrs. Lee Brown leasing the facilities to care for county wards. The building was bought from Dr. H. W. Bateman for 18000, costing 15000 with 3000 for equipment. The county also sold the poor farm two miles north of Choteau with 36 acres remaining from 88 acres.

Funeral rites yesterday for Mrs. Miller in Great Falls
Mrs. Elizabeth Miller former Choteau resident died last Friday in Seattle where she had lived ten years. Funeral Mass was at Holy Family church Great Falls at 9 15 am with pallbearers Tom Larson Paul Kropp Jerry Breen Charles Purkett Walter Scott and John Sullivan. Burial in Mount Olivet cemetery Great Falls. Survivors include two daughters Elizabeth Ellen Miller of Seattle and Patricia Buechell of El Paso. four sisters and two brothers. Mrs Miller helped found Bynum church and was active in community service.

Hammond Boy Dies of Burns in Jet Crash
Roger Clark Hammond son of Mrs. Hildegard Hammond of Great Falls died in Yokosuka Japan from burns received when a jet from USS Essex crash landed in Korean waters. Five ship mates were killed and 15 injured in the explosion. He was a navy airman apprentice and a 1949 Cheat Falls high school graduate who had also attended Montana State University.

Cut Bank captured the Choteau Trap club trophy with a 689 of 750 in a five-team meet including Helena Rainsford and two Choteau teams. Tom Moore of Choteau won the individual cup after a 94 out of 100 tie and 21 to 20 shoot-off victory over Al Barton. Jack Brokel tied for high scores with 143, then beat Barton 23 to 22 in the shoot-off.
