Five Hunters Fined For Elk Kills In Sun River Preserve

Three Great Falls hunters admitted guilt after entering the Sun River game preserve and bagging elk. Deputy Warden Mihalovic and Bruce Neal fined each $250, licenses revoked. Two Livingston men also fined $100 each for hunting mountain goats in the same preserve.

Acreage Conservation deadline nears for 1951 program year

Farmers in Teton County must complete approved soil and water conservation practices by Oct. 31 1951 to qualify for payments under the Agricultural Conservation program. Nov. 15 is the reporting deadline and inspections must occur before winter prevents verification.

Daily visiting hours are 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 8 30 pm with no morning visits. No one under 16 admitted. Reid Named Assistant State Manager for New York Life

Hugh M. Reid, longtime New York Life agent at Chateau, is appointed assistant state manager and will move to Billings with his wife Arlene Nelson and their two sons. He begins a two week course in New York City to prepare for the post. J Lynn Baker continues as agent at Choteau. Reid has chaired local business groups and served in WWII before joining New York Life in 1948.

State Mobile Unit Plans Teton County Tour

Mrs. Lois Leibach state field secretary for the Montana Tuberculosis association led a county planning meeting in Choteau last Friday for the x-ray mobile unit visit. The unit will be in Choteau early in November with six of seven communities notified sending representatives.

Local Crusade For Freedom Drive Slated In Teton County

A house to house fund drive for the Crusade for Freedom is planned in Choteau and surrounding areas. Al Hensley noted the event will start Oct 13 with Scouts assisting the Choteau American Legion auxiliary and local businesses accepting contributions. The drive runs about a week and includes later dates in Dutton Bynum Pendrey Greenfield and Fairfield while new route additions like Greenfield and Pendrey are also included.

Stoudt Family Mourns Loss In Bozeman

Pendroy couple Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stoudt traveled to Bozeman after the death of Mrs. Homer Stoudt. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Sunset chapel in Bozeman.

Cub Scout Meeting Set Next Wednesday

The Cub Scout Committee announces a meeting of fathers and mothers of Cub Scouts to be held next Wednesday Oct. 10. Plans for the coming year will be made. All boys between ages 8 to 11 are eligible to become Cub Scouts and are urged to attend with their parents.

1952 Wheat minimum support price set at 2 17 per bushel

The national average support price for the current crop is 2.18 a bushel, giving farmers a loan rate around 1.99 in 1952. The plan sets a 90 percent parity basis from 1951 and ties future adjustments to parity and July 1 1952. An 78 85 million acre goal is set for next year to ensure domestic and export grain needs, with Montana allocated 5 492 000 acres and careful rotation urged to avoid disruption.

Fairfield Robbe Case Leads to First Degree Burglary Charge

Homer Siebert of Fairfield was arrested by the Teton County sheriff after a flight to Missoula and then near Polson. He faces first degree burglary charges in a case involving about $2,500 taken from Greenfield Farmers Oil Co. during Sept 22 to 24. Bail set at $1,000. arraignment in district court in Choteau on Oct 19.

Harvest Near Choteau 65 Percent Complete Despite Showers

Intermittent showers in the past week slowed large scale harvesting in the Choteau area with 65 percent of crops cut in the Choteau Dutton region. Pendroy saw little progress while Farming ton Agawam and surrounding farms reported better results as grain shipments exceeded 100 cars from the two Choteau elevators. Continued rain halted work and moisture rose to one inch at Spring Valley.

The Rev. Private Thomas Stansberry Visits During 30 Day Furlough

PVT Thomas Stansberry 18 son of Mr and Mrs Ward Stansberry arrived in Chateau on a 30 day furlough to visit relatives and friends. He has completed the AF basic airmen indoctrination course at Lackland Air Force Base and awaits further assignment. The base near San Antonio is the Air Force center for basic training and officer candidate programs.

Choteau Trap club hosts a Sunday trophy shoot on the golf course hill at 10 a.m. Teams from Cut Bank Dutton Conrad Power and Great Falls vie for the club trophy, which Cut Bank has won twice. Judges at the Montana State Press Association convention in Butte placed the Chateau Acantha among the state’s best six weekly papers, taking third in general excellence for weekly papers under 2 000 circulation. Out-of-state judges critiqued its readable headlining and appealing inside makeup while noting scarce want-ads.

Pastor to arrive soon for St William’s Episcopal Church

A resident pastor from Irving N Y named W L Milner arrives late this month to lead St William’s in Choteau after more than two years without a minister.
