Labor groups urge special Montana legislative session
At a general conference Bruce I Steinmetz of Cascade Trades and Labor Assembly and Rep Gene Burris urged calling a special Montana session to pass a retroactive unemployment insurance law before January 1. They warn Montana would lose 700000 to 1000000 dollars in federal funds without state action. Governor Holt favors delay unless benefits justify extra costs. The new legislature starts January 4 and a retroactive law will be discussed with Washington authorities. The federal act is part of National Security Act and unrelated to the old age pension law.

R C Tarrant began moving equipment to the Bynum structure southwest of the Pondera oil field area where several wells showed oil. O Neil 2604 feet had water below, while Midwest Refining’s well near it reached 2 503 feet with oil shows. The Tarrant test plans to burn fuel with gas from Edwards wells nearby and drill from a new crew moving from the Wellenstein test into the Bynum site. New leases have been taken by C R Tarrant, George Coffey of Chateau, and J H Aronson’s crew moves the derrick with Dave Morgan, Alvak Fink, Louis Fink, and S B Powell expected to set the rig by late Tuesday. drilling to commence two to three weeks after the Billings discovery well is reached.
