Shirley Gronberg crowned Teton County Junior Miss

Choteau High School senior Shirley Gronberg was named Junior Miss at the Choteau Jaycees pageant. First runner-up Becky Lee and second runner-up Sally Sulgrove also earned scholarships and recognition. Gronberg plans to attend the University of Montana after graduation. Lee and Sulgrove also intend to pursue Montana study with arts and sciences or journalism.

Icy Road Spur Multiple Accidents Reported After Storm

Highway Patrolman Ray Farrell said a rash of accidents followed Friday’s storm creating slick roads. Over the weekend and into Sunday November 25 to 26 drivers including Arthur Bartow James Jacobson James Clotfelter Anthony Mastroianni Harold Shedd and Kenneth Rogers faced damage and citations for speed violations driving recklessly and license restrictions with no serious injuries reported.

Explorer Scouts Spaghetti Dinner Planned for Saturday

The Chateau Explorer Scouts sponsor a spaghetti dinner in the Methodist Church basement this Saturday December 2. Serving starts at 4 p.m. and runs until all are served. Adults pay 1.25 dollars, children 50 cents, family tickets 4 dollars. Proceeds fund Explorer activities for the year.

Permits Required for Christmas Tree Cutting on Forest Land

Teton District Ranger Joe Higgins announced that local residents may cut one Christmas tree per family on the Lewis and Clark National Forest this 1967 season. Permits are free and available at the Chateau district office now through December 22, with specific rules on distance from roads, campgrounds, and stumps, plus a no-cut area in the North Fork Teton drainage.

The Chateau Bulldogs beat the Fort Benton Longhorns 72 to 68 in the season debut. Dan Jacobs outscored Fort Bentons All State guard Larry Cook 33 to 31, with Jacobs grabbing 11 rebounds while Krone had 10 and Lehnert 8. Coach Chuck Peck praised the effort despite miscues and noted Jacobs delivered one of his best games.

Choteau postmaster Gibson Monkman addressed Lions on ZIP Code importance Tuesday night. He explained how ZIP Code reduces mail handling as population grows from 120 million in 1940 to 200 million and per person mail rising to 405 by 1970. The Lions fundraiser netted 1,279.60 with a barbecue adding 179.54, funds to offset the swimming pool deficit.

First Taste Of Winter Hits The Area

The region saw its first real winter with several inches of snow and a -9 degree low. Temperatures rose to 37 by Wednesday as hazards from slick roads caused multiple accidents. Bradley L. Gunderson of Cha teau is named among 12 candidates for the Air Force Academy by Senator Lee Metcalf. Twelve youths meet physical requirements. two will be selected by academy staff based on composite scores from exams, academics, activities, and principal recommendations. Teton Pass Winter Ski Site Gets Forest Service Permit

Forest Service issues a special use permit to Teton Pass Inc to build a winter sports site on the Lewis and Clark National Forest east slope of Mount Lockhart. The plan includes a 1000 foot Mitey Mite tow, 750 foot rope tow, warming hut, and restrooms with parking. The site joins Kings Hill as the forest’s second ski area enabling local skiing year round.

Farmers Urged To Inspect Loan Grain Stocks

Farmers should check stored CCC loan grain for deterioration as final payments depend on grain condition. Rex Manuel of the Te ton ASC county committee notes fewer on farm inspections but emphasizes farmer responsibility. Montana has about 854 018 bushels under loan in the county, including 634 720 bushels of 1967 crop wheat and 146 929 bushels of earlier wheat, plus 57 339 bushels of barley and 10 800 bushels of resealed barley. If grain deteriorates, notify the ASCS office to arrange movement and limit losses.
