About 40 people attended a all day Civil Defense Emergency Preparedness Conference in the Chateau American Legion hall. MSU officials and state Civil Defense staff led films and discussions on nuclear shelter and trained response. County CD director Murr outlined progress and plans including radiological stations and emergency centers in Chateau Fairfield and Dutton.

Choteau Furniture Sale Leaves Faurote to New Missoula Owners
Murl Faurote, owner of Teton Furniture in Choteau, announces the sale of the business to Mr. and Mrs. Vern Smith of Missoula. The sale takes effect Dec 1 with the Smiths moving to Choteau next week and bringing experience in furniture, floor covering, drapery and appliance lines. Faurote will stay until late January to introduce the new owners, and longtime employee Gerry Wellington remains. The Faurotes started Teton Furniture in August 1961, moving to the current Main Street location in 1963. Faurote says there will be no changes in policy or accounts, and all records and payment schedules will continue.

The Teton County Junior Miss Pageant will be held Friday in the Chateau High School auditorium. Twelve senior girls from four area high schools compete for a state bid in Kalispell. Judge McPhillips Heads Montana Trial Judges Committee
District Judge R. D. McPhillips of Shelby was chosen chair of a committee of Montana trial judges to draft a proposed constitution and by-laws for the Montana State Trial Judges Association. The group aims to study and disseminate information on trial matters and court procedures for regional and state meetings and will align with the National Conference of State Trial Judges which hosts four week seminars annually.

Curt Bellamy Dies In Truck Accident Near Medora
Curt Bellamy, 29, of Glendive, was killed Friday when the tank truck he drove veered off the highway near Medora North Dakota and caught fire. Authorities say Bellamy was trapped as flames erupted in the crude oil loaded vehicle. He was a nephew of Mrs. Marie Larson and related to Mr. and Mrs. Hanson Andersen of Choteau.

Former Area Woman Dies in Washington
Mrs. R. C. Smith of Bellingham Washington died Sunday November 12 at age 94. She moved to the Dutton area in 1910 with husband Ray and two sons, later relocating to Bellingham in the early 1930s. Survived by son Jay of Bellingham, two grandsons, and many nieces and nephews, with brothers Orville and Clarence who also farmed in the Dutton area.

Bates Sentenced To State Prison In Deer Lodge
Bates Charlies L. Bates, 21, was sentenced by District Judge R. D. McPhillips to four years in the state penitentiary at Deer Lodge, with all but 60 days suspended. He faces warrants for check fraud in Valley City and Cascade county, desertion in the Army, and additional check fraud cases in Bozeman.
