Santa Plans Visit Here On Saturday Dec 16

The Choteau Chamber of Commerce schedules a visit from Santa on Saturday December 16 to follow a free children’s movie at the Roxy Theatre starting at 2 p.m. The chamber also bought 60 trees to light downtown and requests volunteers to help set them up Sunday at 1 p.m. near the quonset by Lee’s Grocery.

November highway and city patrol reports in Chateau and Teton

The November report shows Teton county highway accidents at 10, near the yearly average, with 3 injuries. Patrol summons fell to 26, 8 tickets for no license, 6 for unsafe driving, and multiple two violations for speeding and other infractions. Chateau Police issued 14 summons and 50 warnings, mainly speeding and underage beer possession, with several minor violations and warnings for equipment, curfew, and license issues.

Christmas Concert Planned by Chateau High School

Chateau High School Music Department will present its annual Christmas concert Sunday December 17 at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The choir modern choir and band will perform several numbers under director Lloyd Reynolds. A complete list of numbers will be published next week.

Robert Brastrup Named to Head Wheat Board

Robert Brastrup is named chief of the Division of Wheat Research and Marketing in Montana. The appointment by Norris Hanford and C. Lowell Purdy formalizes the Wheat Research and Marketing Committee leadership under the wheat commission law. Brastrup has 15 years as a county agent, degrees from NDSU and MSU, and is a North Dakota native and WWII veteran with a large family.

The Army launches Operation Holiday a December enlistment program allowing men to enlist between December 6 and 29 and take leave for the holidays. Choteau Bulldogs Claim Invitational Crown Over Browning

Choteau Bulldogs won the home tournament by beating Simms 72-64 and Browning 75-54 in the finals. Browning earned second place and Nevins took the free throw trophy. Fairfield took consolation with a 67-54 win over Simms.

Officials for Teton Pass Inc set a tentative opening date for the new ski run west of Chateau for Saturday December 16. Volunteer work is invited this weekend with high school students welcome to help clear slopes using saws axes and chain saws.

Bulldogs to Play Helena and Polson In Weekend Games

The Chateau Bulldogs travel to Helena tonight for a class A game with Hele na Central, then meet Polson Friday at Polson. Coach Chuck Peck calls both opponents strong in their divisions. The B squad joins the A team in Helena with two Great Falls Public High School teams to follow. Friday games start at 6:30 pm, open to the public, no admission.

Sportsmen’s Meeting Set for Tuesday at Court House

The Teton County Sportsmen’s Association will meet Tuesday December 12 at 8 p.m. in the court room at Chateau Court House. Dr. Michael Kelly says the event is open to the public with a 30 minute movie and refreshments. Representatives from Fish and Game will discuss year round fishing and access to children’s areas, and possible hunting openings for Teton Spring Creek and Sun River preserves, currently needing legislature action.

Former Power Man Keith J. Hane Dies in Great Falls

Keith J. Hane, 75, longtime Power area resident, died last week in a Great Falls hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday with Rev. H. R. Anderson Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Highland Cemetery. Born January 15, 1892 in New Berlin Ohio, he homesteaded in Power in 1913 and moved to Great Falls in 1957, remaining connected to farming. He was a member of the Dutton Masonic Lodge.

License plate number renewal deadline stated by Teton County treasurer

Persons wishing the same license numbers for their vehicles in 1968 must submit registration cards and a signed check to the treasurer's office promptly. Marie Stenson, the county treasurer, warns that no numbers will be saved unless materials are in her office by December 20.

Farm Management Conference Slated In Falls Next Week

A Farm Business Management conference sponsored by Montana State University Cooperative Extension Service and the Great Falls Chamber of Commerce will be held December 11 and 12 at the College of Great Falls Theatre. Funeral services for Edith Bessie Cornett age 80 are set for 2 p.m. at Banks Funeral Chapel with Rev. C. Fred Crowe officiating. She died Monday in Teton Memorial Hospital after a three week illness. Interment in Chateau Cemetery. Survivors include granddaughter Edith Everson of Fort Benton, a sister and a brother in Philadelphia, and another sister in Leeds England.

City Council Hears Multiple Ordinance Revisions

The council held the first and second readings on several ordinance amendments with a final reading set for Monday December 18. Ordinance 162 raises salaries for city offices including mayor aldermen clerk treasurer police magistrate water collector fire chief attorney and parks superintendent. Ordinance 163 allows bars to offer live music up to five pieces from 7 PM to 1 30 AM with a $5 permit and revocation after hearings. Other ordinances address bans on floor shows and obscene entertainment in dance halls sidewalk construction in local additions and a DUI driving standard clarifying being in actual physical control. Approval of three new firefighters was also announced.
