Clearman Rites Held at Helena Funeral Home

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in Helena for Rollin A. Clearman 83 retired real estate and insurance man died in Mesa Arizona November 16 The service was conducted in Hagler Chapel by Rev Kenneth H Coursey with Masonic graveside rites He was born August 2 1873 in Iowa City and lived in multiple states through a career in freighting ranching and insurance Surviving are his widow Jenne and several children with homes in Spokane Helena and other cities The narrative lists numerous relatives and locations reflecting a lengthy biographical obituary.

Cooperation Sought to Protect Sockeye Spawning at Bynum

The Teton Sportsmen and Montana State Fish and Game Dept urge anglers not to snag landlocked sockeye salmon spawning in Bynum Reservoir. Nels Thorson notes good water flow and gravel aid spawning while the reservoir remains open to fishing with standard tackle. The canal inlet is closed to angling since Nov. 30.

Smart Taken to Lewis and Clark County Jail

Spokana youth Lee Smart, held on a murder charge in Teton county, was transferred Friday to the Lewis and Clark county jail in Helena per an order signed by District Judge ER M Hattersley of Conrad. Teton county sheriffs officers made the transfer as Smart’s trial is set for Monday, Jan. 7.

Movie Rights to Guthries New Book Sold for 100000

Bud Guthrie Jr of Great Falls and Chateau sold movie rights to These Thousand Hills for 100000 to 20th Century Fox. The novel has earned coast to coast acclaim with praise from Saturday Review and critics in the New York Times and Los Angeles Times. Guthrie, a Montana author and Niemann Fellow at Harvard, has a long career in journalism and education.

Teton County Farm Bureau active at state convention

The Montana Farm Bureau Federation opened its 37th annual meeting in Great Falls. Ken Sturgis of Choteau spoke at the vesper service. About 21 Teton County Farm Bureau members attended the events including Bill Jones and other local families. Activities covered livestock, crops, land and water use, and wildlife management. A district caucus, committee meetings, and a banquet with the Chateau Odd Fellows Quartet highlighted Monday proceedings.

Councilman Explains Water Bond Issue At Public Meeting

Alderman George Henderson outlined a proposed water bond plan at Lions hall addressing leaks in the trunk line and needed extensions. The plan seeks 150000 in bonds to be repaid over 20 years from water revenues with a flat rate, and questions on inequities and meters discussed before a public vote today at Legion Hall and City Hall.

Fire Destroys Farm Home Near Pendroy

A two story log home of Wag Halvorson about three miles south of Pendroy near U S Highway 89 burned Tuesday noon. Firefighters from Teton County Rural Chateau and Pondera County Rural Conrad kept the blaze from affecting barns or outbuildings. A 4 or 5 year old son narrowly escaped from the upper story where the fire started, with children suspected as arson suspects. Freezer and various items were saved, but damage estimate unavailable.
