Under dean James L. C. Ford MSU hosts News to You from MSU three times weekly on KGVO with Jere Coffey and Dorothy Rochon announcing. A journalism museum exhibit showcases antiques labeled by Harlan Lee and Pat Campbell. Nellie Parks and student performers star in campus events and the revue Confidentially Mr Hitler. Ball sessions foster student contact with armed forces members.
Te ton County Farm Machinery Ration ing committee under Chairman Roy F. Morgan explains state quotas will set allocations by type of equipment for 1943. With new production extremely limited since 1920 and 1940 levels, many items may not be available in some cases. Frozen stock will be released only as quotas allow, while repair parts remain plentiful to support maintenance and an upcoming strong production year. Farmers urged to prepare machines now to meet next year demands.
Delegates from 13 Teton county communities met at Chateau Saturday and elected Roy F. Morganton County Triple-A committee chairman for Fairfield for 1943. Martin J. Swanson of Farmington was elected vice chairman and W H Wellenstein of Pendray became regular member. Alternate members are Ben N Loch and Ed Savik. New officers take office January 1, 1943.
Lynn Baker of Choteau writes from Anchorage Alaska describing high living costs with meats at 1.25 to 4.00 and rents rising. He reports quick work at Wells Motor and social contacts with Charley Cohoe and Cliff Norris. He notes long stay six weeks short of three months and mentions reading The Citizen via his mother and sending a one year subscription to The Acantha.
A wartime letter from Pvt. Lawrence L. Alzheimer of East St. Louis, Illinois, describes studying airplane mechanics at Parks Air College in East St. Louis during 15 weeks of training. He mentions family in service, sending a $2 subscription to The Acantha, and notes on weather and school life while stationed at AAFTCD 901 Brady Ave.
Officials of the Teton County Shipping Association announced the annual Christmas turkey shipment will depart from the American Legion pavilion at the city park in Choteau on Tuesday December 1.
The annual Christmas Seal sale to fight tuberculosis and support a county nurse began Monday. County chairman Mrs. Hed bloom of Fairfield and local chair Mrs. George Gunther oversee stations in Choteau, including Choteau Drug Co Corner Store and W edum. A dollar seal set is mailed with a return envelope.
Miss Mildred Louise Nelson and Robert E. Bergman were married Friday at the Nelson home in Chateau with Rev. Bert A. Powell officiating. The couple will reside in Long Beach California after a wedding trip to Baker’s Dude Ranch Minneapolis and Mountain Iron Minnesota.
Mrs. Margaret Sullivan, 55, wife of Pendroy farmer Gene Sullivan, died at Columbus hospital in Great Falls after a 12 day illness due to high blood pressure and heart trouble. Born in Cork County Ireland February 1887, she married Gene Sullivan in January 1924 after living in Boston and Butte. Funeral services were held at St. Ann Cathedral Great Falls with Requiem High Mass, interment in the Great Falls Mausoleum. Survivors include her husband, a brother and sister in Boston, and several nieces and nephews.
A Washington telegram from Donald M. Nelson urges American farmers to dedicate remaining weeks of 1942 to an intensive scrap hunt. Steel mills need heavy scrap and farms are a key source. Nelson says salvage committees will provide transport and manpower and mail mats and materials to help farmers participate. The nation relies on farmers to support the effort.
The Teton County census of school children shows 137 fewer ages 6 to 21 than last year with 895 girls and 1031 boys among 1926. Preschool numbers drop by 92 with a 333 boys and 333 girls split. Since the last census 181 have turned 21. Muriel Reiquam, County Supt. of Schools.
Wartime pressures push December 1 deadline for bulk Christmas mail as 194? figures show a need for thousands of extra mail cars and borrowed vehicles. Pur dum, official under Walk er, warns of severe shortages since armed services use most assets.
Notice notes a golden wedding celebration of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Conner in Farmington this Sunday, with full details to appear next week. The paper mentions heavy demand for job work including school papers and wedding stationery.
Nearly 150 members attended the Teton Oldest Settlers annual meeting last Thursday, electing Mae Thompson president and naming officers including Dave Anderson vice president and Cora Cohoe secretary. The event featured a banquet, music, and dances, with tributes to deceased members and new arrivals welcomed.
The second issue of The School Scoop is published by Teton County High School students under faculty supervisor Thomas Wilson. Support from Chateau merchants and the former Teton Citizen press makes production possible. the Acantha played no role. The paper features news and editorials and aims to boost school life, though a heavy burden on local businesses could end it if authorities decide.
Late registrants for cars must register. Institutional coffee users should register immediately. Bring current coffee on hand at midnight, November 21 and record purchases in September and October. Excess sugar buyers must apply to the ration board for war book No. 1. If you changed address since rationing began, leave the new address with the board.
Several Teton young men in the armed forces have returned home on furlough. Among them are Myron LeDesky a master sergeant who left November 11 for Tampa Florida where he is stationed and Wayne LeDesky a technical sergeant who left November 16 for Fort Lewis Washington.
