Funeral Services Held Monday for J. A. Baart
Funeral services were held here Monday at 10 from St. Luke's Catholic church for County Commissioner J. A. Baart who died suddenly last Thursday of heart failure. The service included a solemn requiem high mass with clergy from Helena and local parishioners. The pallbearers included county and city officials. Baart, a progressive community builder, was honored in public life and esteemed by the Old Settlers of Teton. He lay in state Sunday. burial was at Chateau cemetery.

The Denver based resettlement administration outlines the Fairfield Beach farms unit plan with 80 four room houses 35 five room houses 10 six room houses plus repairs and outbuildings. Each unit includes wells water systems waste disposal and 90 acres. Soils are Fairfield loam and silt loams favoring crops while irrigation comes from Gibson reservoir Pishkun canal Sun River slope canal and extensive canal networks. Principal incomes from hay grain and livestock with limited market outlets for certain cash crops and proposed cooperatives and farming facilities.

Pendroy resident Wm J Earls was appointed by District Judge R M Hattersley to succeed the late J A Baurt as second district county commissioner. Earls, a Democrat and 1500 acre wheat farmer, has long been active in local AAA and Wheat Production Control efforts and came to Teton County in 1918 from Washington.

Under Lions program chairman T O Larson the Lions club held a Tuesday night meeting with Frank Stearns presiding in the president's absence. J Kent Midgett spoke on high school athletics urging continued support while Mayor Burns read Lions magazine material. A Boy Scout program led by H M Daley featured an investiture and court of honor as the drum and bugle corps performed. Merit badges went to Jimmy Peterson and Bobby Proff and Warren Daley advanced to first class. The session closed with a prayers of thanks by N W Edwards.

Beet Industry Growth Aims for Teton County Sugar Beets
Officials from US Sugar Co and field representative J W Matson visited Fairfield and outlined plans to expand beet acreage from about 30 to as much as 600 acres in Teton County. A beet dump at Fairfield and a 15 acre experimental farm on the Halladay place will demonstrate best practices and attract local labor, with contracts being pursued for Fairfield and Bynum projects.
