A historical note recalls Thanksgiving gratitude as a shared prayer to the Creator. It frames Americans as free, unafraid, and indebted to Divine Providence for blessings and future hopes.
A Ground Observer Corps will be formed at Chateau after a Civil Defense meeting. Great Falls Air Force base will send a field team to organize the corps on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium, with Lt Norman Polk and Sgt Abell leading the training.
The Chateau Bulldogs host the Great Falls Central Mustangs Friday November 26 with a 7 00 p m opener between B teams. Mustangs project to contend despite graduation losses with Reardon Moriarity Glenn Rainieri Monce. Bulldogs awaiting starting lineup with several lettermen and challengers competing for spots. Saturday the locals travel to Fort Benton for a conference clash.
Marie Jackson and John L. Chick Sulgrove wed in a single ring ceremony at the Church of the Incarnation in Great Falls on November 12 at 8 p.m. Rev H A Rogers officiated. Edith Dunckel served as matron of honor and Kenneth Sulgrove as best man. The couple plans a Canada trip then will settle in Choteau where the groom runs an appliance business.
Joe Lucier owner of the Te ton Pharmacy announces Art Cooper joins the staff. Cooper previously worked at Choteau Drug Store Bes dotney Des TER S DRO and Rexall in Fairfield. He trained at Capital College Des Moines and is licensed in South Dakota and later Colorado Wyoming Montana and Washington. The couple reside in the McDonald Block.
A Thanksgiving Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church on Thanksgiving morning at 9:00, announced by Father Thomas Gannon. The sermon is titled Let Us Give Thanks To the Lord Our God, with prayers for civil authorities and county welfare after Mass. another Mass is planned for 8:00 a.m. in Augusta.
The Soroptimist rummage room sale will be open on Saturday night November 27 from 7 00 to 9 00 p m. Proceeds support local community projects and services.
Northern Division projections list Shelby as the top team with seven returning lettermen and three transfers under coach Les Curry. Sunburst, Havre Central, Conrad, Great Falls Central, Chateau and others follow with returning players and potential, as teams rebuild depth and experience.
Mrs. Alvina Uhrich and her three month old daughter LaDona Jean fell from a moving pickup on Highway 89 between Fairfield and Great Falls Nov 17. They were treated at a Great Falls hospital for minor injuries. The door opened as the vehicle rounded a curve causing the fall.
Teton County's oldest settlers held their 43rd annual gathering Thursday evening at the Legion and Odd Fellows Halls. About 115 members dined on turkey dinner at 6 30 p m, opening exercises led by James Peebles. The band sang The Old Timers Ball and Beyond the Sun, with guests from California Washington and Great Falls. Officers elected for 1954 and 1955 included Peebles Bateman Kropp Averill Nelson. Auld Lang Syne and May the Good Som Bless and Do You were performed as the program closed with a large supper hosted by the American Legion Auxiliary.
The Teton County Sheriff's Office told Conrad that the L. A. Gilsingers’ Augusta home was gutted by fire while they attended a funeral. An investigator noted the blaze began in an overstuffed chair, countering reports of faulty wiring.
The first concert of the 1954-55 season at Chateau high school auditorium drew a large enthusiastic audience. The program featured grade and high school bands and the chorus under Chester Potuzak, music instructor for the Choteau schools.
Milton Ne Pe district scout commissioner and Wallace Th pheuniete's member attended a scout executives meeting in Great Falls Sunday night. After sessions in the Electric City they drove to Big Sandy and Hayre returning early Monday morning.
Chateau Grade School joins a nationwide school milk drive led by Supt Ed Schiller. Montana is among western states adopting the USDA funded plan to provide more milk to children, with monthly parental payments averaging about two cents per half pint. Beginning December 1, milk will be served mid-morning and delivered on monthly orders with no credit for absences.
Leo S. Kolstad of the State Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation reports that price support efforts raise issues. He cites analysis showing varying monthly high prices and notes drawbacks when supplies rise, increasing CCC inventory and costs. Measures aim to cut CCC stocks and align production with demand through education acreage shifts and programs moving supplies to markets at home and abroad.
Applications for Trees Shelterbelt must be made at the county agent's office as soon as possible. Early submissions increase the likelihood that ordered tree varieties remain available. Jens Holt of Dutton was a Chateau business caller on Monday.
Montana 4 H member Katherinette Malone is among 12 sectional winners in the national 4 H entomology awards. She will travel to Chicago for the National 4 H Club Congress, Nov 28 to Dec 5. Malone has eight years in 4 H and two years directing the entomology project. She collected 125 insects and gave demonstrations titled Lets Collect Insects and Easy Catching at the State 4 H Club Congress Bozeman and the Pacific International Portland.
About 500 Montana Future Farmers members join a state and national FFA safety drive to reduce highway fatalities. Youth will organize safety programs, inspect vehicles, study traffic rules, and invite highway patrol speakers, aiming to encourage broader community cooperation.
A blood drawing is scheduled for Friday, November 26 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Dutton. The event, announced by Mrs E R O Neil, chairwoman of the American Legion Auxiliary blood program, aims to collect 35 pints and will be recorded by Mrs O Neil who tracks all Teton county blood drawings.
The Montana Supreme Court ruled Dryman's murder trial must be held outside the Ninth Judicial District. Judge Hattersley of Conrad presides the Toole county case. Dryman was twice sentenced to hang, with appeals leading to a new trial in a nonadjacent county. Toole County bears trial costs.
Henry Brackert age 66 died at his Corvallis home on Wednesday November 17. A retired dude rancher, he ran a large Augusta area ranch for years before selling it to Verner Peterson of Chateau. Known for guiding fishing and hunting trips, he built much of his furniture and buildings from native wood. A Montan resident for 47 years, born July 41 1888 in Lafayette Indiana, he and his wife were longtime residents.
Louis Clough announced on Wednesday that the Grand Master will make his official visit to Chateau Lodge No 11 1.0.C.F. next Tuesday night November 30.
K M Bridenstine of Choteau elected chair of the Teton Chapter of the American Red Cross at the annual meeting held November 15 in the courtroom. Rev A Bernard Gravdal and Leo Murphy chaired, with officers C G Monkman and P H McClellan among the list. About 20 residents from Choteau Fairfield and Dutton attended as film presentations on The Red Cross Report for 1954 and People, and Only People Matter were shown by Bob Gormley.
