The Fairfield Merchants will meet the Choteau Independents in the high school gym Friday night at 8:00. Choteau, coming off a split week, lost 49 to 39 at Fairfield then beat Greenfield 53 to 37 on the road. Key scorers include H. Hollo 16 and H. Leismiester 18 for Fairfield. K. McFarlane 13 and Bob Brooks 11 for Choteau.
Nineteen members from Teton County communities attended a no host dinner at the Cornell hotel on Friday November 26 where a report of the state convention was given and plans for the year outlined. The Pendray unit held its first meeting December 1 with Ted Skelton as president and Dick Harwood as secretary treasurer. The state convention in Missoula November 18 to 20 drew about 200 delegates. Teton County with 218 members held six voting delegates. Delegates named were Lloyd Pedersen Ted Sorensen Don Corbett Lyall Standish Clarence Carlson Kaare Larsen with Darwin and Mabel Crane as alternates. Resolutions on state and national policies were discussed and will guide the State Farm Bureau and, if approved, the National convention in New York City. A Montana legislative representative will advise Helena on Farm Bureau policy and inform counties of pertinent bills.
Fort Benton Longhorns overpowered Chateau 57 39 after trailing 27 23 at halftime. Dennis Nottingham led Fort Benton with 18 points and Dale Fisher 14 in the third period while Svoboda added 11. Chateau fielded two more scorers, Anderson and Snyder with 11 each. The Fort Benton B team won 53 6.
Chateau Bulldogs upset the Great Falls Central Mustangs 58 to 57 on their home floor. Moriarity led Central with 19 points while Reardon added 18 for the Mustangs as Chateau held a 32 28 halftime lead and a 51 42 edge after three quarters. An overtime of 20 seconds followed a faulty gym timer.
The Chateau Chamber of Commerce and merchants committee set Saturday afternoon December 11 for the annual kid’s show and Christmas party at the Roxy theatre. The event begins at 2 pm with shopping extends to 9 pm through December 13 and continues on December 20 and beyond, as announced by the Chamber.
The November pack meeting of five Choteau cub scout dens was held November 24 in the new grade school lunch room. Each den performed a skit portraying a historical event as part of the adventures in History theme. Robert Crocker served as institutional representative and the cub mothers for dens one through five were named. The cub committee included John Van Bolcum as chairman with James Dellwo and James Sulgrove assisting.
The Montana Fish and Game Commission extended moose season for special permit holders in 12 areas until 8 p m December 12. Areas 102 103 107 allow mature moose of either sex while others target mature bulls. Areas include Beaverhead Gallatin Stillwater Park and Flathead counties with Area 101 in the Big Hole drainage open until December 31.
Among Chateau students home for Thanksgiving were Ed Cherry Russell Gleason Bob Clark Jack Heniieford Donn Bannatyne Ronnie O Hinman Jim Howard Lynt Dial Danny Lind seth and Clarice Henderson.
The American Legion invites all veterans of World War II Korea and the Korean and World Wars to join James Smith Post No 6 at The Chateau Post. A 21 inch TV will be awarded at the April meeting as an exhibortanity for 1955 members. Dues are $5 with $3.75 supporting state and national activities and $1.25 for local use. In Police Magistrate court J D Pyum paid a $5 speeding fine dated Nov 27. Teer Cares Sere scheduled for Nov 29 before Justice J Sulgrove. Tom Ner haugen fined $10 for disturbing the peace and serving time. Orville Talifson paid $25 for disturbing the peace. Thomas W Hatcher of Fairfield paid $20 for careless driving causing an accident. In Justice William Irwin's court Glenn J Hackett of Havre fined $35 and given a 30 day sentence for passing a school bus unloading. Clifford N Youngstrom of Cut Dank forfeited £16 for night speed limit violation.
A public meeting in the interests of a Chateau ice skating rink will be held Wednesday December 8 at 8 00 pm in City Hall. Three sites are under consideration including the Lions Club tennis courts near the courthouse. One site will be selected and improvements discussed. Development of the rink is expected to follow soon.
Mr. and Mrs Vaughn Dutre and family of Conrad visited over Thanksgiving with her parents Mr and Mrs Nick Paulus. Other visitors included Mr and Mrs Hans Gaarder of Fairfield and Mr and Mrs Lawrence Jacobson of Great Falls during the week.
The Stinchfield ranch near Fort Shaw was burned over the weekend with Mr and Mrs William Stinchfield and their daughter away at a game. They returned to find the house destroyed and uninsurable with no loss estimate. Firefighters from Simms arrived too late to save the home.
Funeral services were held yesterday at Community church in Fairfield for Cindrilla Ann Crady 86 who died Sunday at Teton Memorial hospital. A Fairfield resident for 37 years she is buried at Chateau cemetery. Survivors include a son a daughter-in-law two sisters and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Local notice calls for young boys to join boxing lessons with McFerran or Stanley Krown at Moose Hall weekdays 7 to 9 pm and 4 to 6 pm for those unable to attend. Also, Topany Snyder, Mike Anderson, Bill Reere and Lonnie McCollum head to Great Falls for bouts at the Heisey Memorial this Friday December 3.
The Trinity Lutheran church choir will perform a Christmas music program on Sunday December 12 at 8 00 p m Mrs Carl Wedum directs the choir Miss Joan Richem is organist Organ and piano duets will be played by Mrs Victor Sargent and Mrs A Gravdal The choir includes Mrs Bernie Stelling Mrs A B Gravdal Ce Potuzak Ruth Wells Ravdal and Robert Gronberg.
The blood drawing at Dut ton on November 26 collected 39 pints, four more than the 35 pint quota, according to Mrs E R O Neil, chairman of the American Legion Auxiliary blood program.
Ballots were mailed to Montana farmers and ranchers on November 29 for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation election of community committeemen. Voting runs to December 13 with ballots returned to county ASC offices.
Justice of the Peace William Irwin warned motorists to stop and not pass unloading school buses on highway 33. He fined Glenn J. Hackett 35 dollars and gave 30 days in jail for the November 3 violation. Hackett’s license tied to Chinook Montana where a summons was issued. Irwin warned more violators will be caught and punished.
Mayor Ted Halvorson urged Montana citizens to join a Christmas safety campaign led by the S D day challenge committee and the National Safety Council. He warned that holiday hazards from shopping to parties increase motor vehicle deaths in December and urged motorists and pedestrians to stay alert and follow common sense safety rules.
State champions by class and division include Montana Class A Great Falls and Glendive in separate divisions, Butte Central in Western, Glen dive in Eastern, with B and C divisions listing co champions and regional winners such as Shelby Great Falls Central Polson Dillon Wolf Point Billings Central Big Sandy Thompson Falls Terry Lodge Grass.
Mrs. Dick Anderson died suddenly of a heart attack Tuesday in Portland Oregon. She and her husband were in Chateau last spring for the funeral of Andersons sister Mrs Charles Koch. Charles and Howard Koch of this city left Wednesday for Oregon to attend the last rites.
Bet McRonald D H Moulton and C L Clough attended a special meeting in Great Pali last Saturday night with S J Hofland Grand Master of the Odd Fellows Lodge A gathering focused on lodge matters drew these local residents into the event with the grand master in attendance
A modest turnout at Choteau High School on Tuesday night heard Mayor Ted Halvor stressed the value of a Ground Observer Corp post along the northern border. 1st Lt Norman W Polk and Charles Abell from the Helena Air Force Filter Center outlined the post and its duties.
