Harry Smith of Chateau and Farmington was seriously injured Friday when a wagon with a wheat load toppled. He slipped from the seat, the front wheel passed over him, sustaining four broken ribs and injuries to lungs and kidneys. He was taken to a Conrad hospital and is reported to be improving though still in pain.
The Acantha publishes updated official election returns with socialist vote by precinct total votes, precinct majorities for each candidate and constitutional amendment. Out of fashion is given by William J Erskine manager of the Northern Commercial company of Seattle as the reason for the astounding fall in prices of raw furs affecting all skins from sea otter to muskrat, ermine the only price staying firm. Alaska supplies three fourths of world fur supply but prices fixed in London. Erskine’s firm held a vorser on the silver fox market but sold at half last year’s prices. Muskrat skins used in counterfeit seals have dropped thirty percent as seals fall from fashion and imitations lessen demand.

Commissioner Geo I Muller warns that the county will likely exhaust its poor fund this winter due to destitute settlers. He notes an influx from northern areas and early demand on aid, while hoping the situation does not worsen beyond current expectations.
President Taft was told during Gatun dam inspection that the Panama Canal would be completed in 1913 with $75,000,000 authorized. Lieutenant Colonel Goethals seeks one year to vet tenders and ensure smooth machinery work while ships use the canal at their own risk of delay. The opening date remains January 1, 1915, and President Watts’ visit was not linked to a new appropriation.
Scott Leavitt of Dillon appointed supervisor of the Lewis and Clark national forest WoH. Davgs, the prior head for 16 years, will transfer to Oregon or California. Leavitt and his wife and child arrived last week and lodging at Sterling McDonald residence. Leavitt has forestry experience in Oregon and Minnesota before Beaverhead forest in Montana. Dange stays until about April 1 to finish current work.
Jas Gibson, clerk of the district court, reports civil business rose about two hundred percent in the past year. Fees at the office doubled, naturalization cases have fallen off recently. The next court session opens November 30 with Judge Ewing presiding.
The annual meeting of the stockholders of the Golden Red Creamery Co. is adjourned until Tuesday November 29 1910 at 11 oclock a.m. at the law offices of Barr Verge in Choteau Montana. A H Gamble president T J Moore secretary dated November 12 1910.
The next regular examination of applicants for teachers certificates will be held at the court house in Choteau and at the public school buildings in Shelby and Dupuyer on Friday November 25 1910 with a continuation date the following day if needed. Dr J McGregor acting health officer says there are no new scarlet fever cases since last week. The Evatt child is nearly well, Russell child is improving, and Esther Riley, the most seriously affected, is recovering. Officials caution vigilance but expect danger to pass by week’s end.

Chas. S. Parker has come back from a two week eastern trip that included a short stay at his Wisconsin home.
Mrs. Nellie K. Gray, now at her Belleview ranch, visits Great Falls. she makes her home there. The Cash Store has started this week and offers no penalty on the Gopher brand canned goods.
The Ladies' Guild will host a dance at Hodgskis hall on Monday evening December 26 1910. Mrs Chas FP Green and children spent the first of the week at their Chateau residence, coming from their ranch home on the Leton.

T O Withee N H Withee and Eu Elemberson of Conrad visited Choteau on Monday. Withees own part of the Conrad townsite. Mr Henderson is seeking to buy Choteau real estate.
Anthony Minster and neighbors along the Suo river now receive mail in Chateau after the Belleview post office was abandoned. Residents describe the change as a great inconvenience and adjust to receiving all correspondence at the nearby town.
C H Conner returned from Conrad after conducting a funeral Sunday for the wife of the local machinery salesman of the Conrad Mercantile company. Typhoid fever was the cause of death. The service was one of the largest ever held in Conrad.
The Conrad Observer notes D. W. Doyle’s election as county attorney will force him to move to the county seat, leaving Conrad without a popular local figure. Mr. Gray, the current attorney, will relocate to Conrad where he is warmly regarded and has many friends.
