Oldest Settlers Meet At Masonic Temple In Teton
The 34th annual meeting of Teton's Oldest Settlers drew 165 attendees at the banquet with many unable to sit for the first serving. The event featured group singing, readings by Mrs. Florence Thompson and Mrs. Elmer Erickson, musical solos by Audrey Darrow and others, and dancing led by John Pfeiffer. Officers were elected and new members listed, with Al Paisley of Browning noted as an interesting guest who recalled early Chateau days and the Paisley residence.

Lee Roy Robert Anderson a carpenter’s mate second class U.S.N.R. was discharged November 16 after 17 months overseas in the Pacific. Merle E. Bivins served on USS Schroeder earning four campaign ribbons and 10 battle stars as she patrolled Pacific waters. Sgt. Pete Luinstra was discharged November 16 after 28 months in the CBI Theatre, with multiple ribbons and unit citation. Lt. Elsie Oredia Ellingson, WAC officer, completed basic training and assigned to Fairfield-Suisun Army Air Base returning to Montana State College alumna. Phillip H. Doughty, Panama-based soldier, promoted to technician fourth grade and serving as a cook, 19 months in Panama. John Becker reports his son John Pershiner Becker plans discharge in St Paul by December 1. Chateau area personnel discharged from Bremerton naval center include Frank Gordon, Charles Black, and Joe Hollinshead. Joe Hollinshead, former Teton Hi athlete, joins Marine Corps at San Diego after enlistment on his 17th birthday.

Roy A Anderson Dies in Rochester Burial Saturday
Roy Alfred Anderson a prominent Chateau businessman and longtime Power resident died Monday in Rochester Minnesota after a yearlong illness. He was born November 30 1892 in Williston North Dakota and lived in Chateau since 1989. Burial is set for 2 PM Saturday at the Chateau Lutheran Church with Rev. Gravdal officiating. He leaves wife Etta Falkenstein sons Lee Roy and Donald daughters Loretta and Darlene and siblings among others. He served in World War I and held local business roles including Rocky Mountain elevator and Socony Vacuum Oil. He was a school board member Legionnaire and Trinity Lutheran trustee. He helped found the Teton Memorial Hospital Association. He planned an apartment conversion for the old Catholic church property pending health. Funeral plans are not fully final.

The Montana Implement and Hardware association held its 37th annual convention in Great Falls at the Hotel Rainbow from November 15 to 17. T. J. Cheetham, Dutton merchant and association president, presided with Joe Hodgson of Great Falls as chairman. Pete Hoekstra of Denton was elected president, with Clarence Backlin of Bozeman as vice president and C. M. Wall of Helena as secretary treasurer. New directors include Otis A. Brende Havre Doyle Potts Billings George Ferris Great Falls R. E. Miller Circle Dave Dorward Deer Lodge Rock Hand Helena Bert Megquier Dillon and Cheetham. Final registration totaled 285, the largest attendance to date.

Weather permitting the Chateau municipal airport commission plans an open house this Sunday likely bringing 100 aviation enthusiasts from outside points. About 25 to 30 privately owned planes and several prominent aviators are expected including John Matthews and W. G. Ferguson with Mrs. Wilma Palmer. The Lions club cooperates with coffee donuts courtesy cars and a hangar stove will be set up. Mr. Matthews will speak at 1 p m.

Florence Ernestine Ferris widow of Montana pioneer Charles H. Ferris died Sunday at age 87 in Cho teau hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 P M at the Episcopal church in Chateau with Rev. W Friend Day officiating. The Acantha will publish a full obituary next week.

Dual Bus Service Off For Balance Of Winter
