Rural schools seek exemption from state eighth grade exams
Chateau, Dut ton and Power grade schools applied to be exempt from the state eighth grade examination. County Superintendent Anna E. Stafford will inspect and rate each school using a six category plan totaling up to 100 points. Last year only Chateau qualified. this year Dutton and Power also seek exemption due to new facilities.

Teton Shipping Association Ships Four Cars Tuesday
Six carloads of cattle were shipped Tuesday by the Teton County Shipping association. Cars were loaded at Choteau Fairfield Collins and Power with two at Choteau two at Fairfield and one each at Collins and Power. The Milwaukee line carried two cars and the Great Northern two. A Milwaukee special train with George Craig accompanied the shipment.

Prominent stockman Toole buys cattle from Carl Malone
B. Be. Cap Toole and Mrs Toole, near Sunburst residents and nephew of ex Governor Jos K Toole, bought 100 head of stock cattle from Carl Malone in Cho Thefore. The cattle were loaded for shipment to Toole’s ranch near Sunburst after being taken to Collins. Sale price not announced but cows with calves were about 70 dollars. Toole spent about 40 years in Sunburst area and grew up in Chateau. He and Mrs Toole reunited with old friends during the visit.

Hog Cholera Found Near Choteau on Trachot Ranch
County Agent Robert Clarkson reports two hogs owned by Glen Barnhill on the Trachot ranch died from hog cholera. Dr. B O Fisher state veterinarian from Great Falls treated the remaining herd and no more fatalities occurred. Farmers urged to notify Clarkson at once if disease is suspected and to seek veterinary diagnosis. Only licensed veterinarians may apply the vaccine due to its peculiar nature.

A Tuesday night feather party at the social center hall hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Luke's church and Sev. Fr. J. F. Schulte raised about 400 dollars. Proceeds included 70 dollars from a tango game 100 dollars from supper and 23990 for a quilt raffle. Fourteen turkeys six chickens and three ducks were given away. South Pondera Duster Well Near Dutton Drilled to 1700 Feet
Report from Matt Dekker of the Power district notes a test well on the Lawrence Garry place in section 6 township 23 north range 1 west came in as a dust er last Saturday. Drilling depth reached about 1700 feet. A second well is planned on the Ed Maroon place three miles east, drilled by F Michener of Alberta who has leased local land. The field, called South Pondera, lies over the Teton ridge about 18 miles east of Choteau.

Elk kill light as hunting season ends near Forest
Preliminary counts show the elk kill for the season near 100, far below last year’s 315. W E Lockhart notes northern forest areas saw more elk than southern, with some crossing into Strawberry Creek country. C D McDonald with H D Baskett reached the north fork of the Teton and McDonald killed a 400 pound dressed cow elk. Jesse Gleason and Wallace Coffey, camped near Ear Mountain, later downed two 6 point bulls at 300 yards, both heart shot. Gleason’s trophy will go to Kenneth Gleason of Billings.

Woman Burned When Coffee Pot Upset in Augusta
Mrs. Paul Robinson of Augusta suffered serious burns to her left arm and right leg and a fractured ankle after she upset a gallon pot of hot coffee while preparing a noonday meal. Dr Kenck provided first aid and she was taken to Chateau hospital with her husband and two others.
