The A and E Lanes of Chateau completed installation of automatic pinsetters by Nov 20 under Otis Elevator Co. supervision. Free bowling ran from 4 pm to closing on Wednesday as management noted the end of the pin boy era and said leagues skip the Thursday before Thanksgiving with open bowling starting at 4 pm.

Jackson E. Baker 67, of Sunburst formerly of Chateau, died November 6 1957 in a Shelby hospital. Born February 1890 in Grant's Lick Kentucky he lived in Fairfield Con rad and Sunburst. LeRoy Yeager son of Mr and Mrs Ed Yeager received a $100 Heywood Foundation grant to start a sheep project under the F F A Yo Ag Supervised Farming program. The foundation funds FFA and 4 H youth in Montana to enter and sustain sheep operations and LeRoy is the first Chateau FFA member to apply and receive money from the foundation.

Two Dutton Stores Broken Into Despite Heavy Snow
Two Dutton stores were broken into during the night of Thursday November 14 according to Deputy Sheriff Walter Magee. The International Harvester Co reported a Bulova watch and 3.20 dollars missing while Curtis Implement Co listed a movie camera a 12 gauge shotgun and 13.20 dollars missing. The burglar or burglars appeared after cash only as tools and merchandise were untouched. Snow cover hid marks and gloves were worn, leaving no clues at the scene.

Two Die In McDonald Ranch Fracas Near Augusta
Two people died in an early Wednesday shooting at the McDonald Ranch near Augusta. Elmer Smith killed his employer Edna McDonald then shot himself after pursuing her to a bunkhouse. A second employee Hank Pfeiffer witnessed the events. autopsy and coroner reports followed. Edna McDonald, a North Dakota native, leaves a daughter and relatives.

It lists about 45 000 names with large shares from Great Falls Havre and Cut Bank and includes 22 REA exchanges. National Guard relaxes non-prior enlistment rules
Major General S H Mitchell Montana Adjutant General announced the National Guard Bureau has relaxed restrictions on recruiting non-prior service personnel. Effective immediately high school seniors may be enlisted with one year deferment before a six month training program. The change eases prior limits on non-prior enlistments.
