September Prices Paid Index For Montana Farmers Higher
The Montana Crop and Livestock Reporting Service reports the mid‑Sept prices paid index for farmers and ranchers was 22 percent above the 1947‑49 base, unchanged since June and four points higher than a year ago. Prices received fell one percent from Sept figures, led by declines in meat animal prices, while the U. S. totals show mixed moves and a three percent rise in 1957 from 1956 for prices received. The October parity ratio dropped two points to 81.

Fairfield Woman Gertrude Stormwind Dies in Great Falls
Mrs. Gertrude Stormwind 61 of Fairfield died Sunday morning in a Great Falls hospital after a long illness. Interment was at Sunset Hills cemetery in Fairfield with graveside services by the Fairfield OES. Born in May 1896 in Austria, she later lived in Winnett, then Fairfield. Survivors include husband Sol, two sons Norman and Charles, two daughters Edith Slutzker and Ruth Glenn, a brother Jack Blumenfield, a sister Anna Din, and seven grandchildren. Donald Cummings is in Toledo attending meat cutting school and will return to Choteau around Christmas.

Chateau Mayor Dick Fabrick has been named a director for the Montana Reclamation association, per a news release from the National Reclamation association’s 1957 convention in Phoenix. Two new state directors were chosen, I J Coury of Albuquerque and Frank Raab of Oklahoma City, replacing former longtime directors who declined reelection.

Influenza Rises Then Falls Among City Students
By midweek the influenza outbreak eased with about 28 to 29 percent absent on Wednesday. Chateau grade school faced the worst impact with 37 percent absent on Tuesday, 165 pupils out. High School noted fewer cases but postponed the Friday senior class play due to illness. Immunologists advise a second vaccine dose for those previously vaccinated.

Idaho Wreck Claims Life of Former Resident and Wife
Former Chateau resident E ton Harland Myrick of Missoula and his wife were killed Monday near Carey Idaho when their car skidded off US alternate highway 93 into a lava embankment. Mrs Myrick was driving. the wreck was found by William Burgess of Idaho Falls who notified the sheriff. Survived by two children, a son in Moscow and a daughter in Missoula. Myrick retired in 1951 after 38 years in the Forest Service, last as supervisor of the Lolo National Forest at Missoula. He had served in multiple forests since 1912 including Flathead Blackfeet St Joe and Clearwater.
