Veterinarians Offer Evening Classes for Adult Farmers

Final plans set for a free adult farmer program at Chateau High School starting Tue Dec 3 at 8 PM. Dr Gustafson and Dr Miser will teach veterinary topics from cattle digestion to newborn care, with future donations to offset travel from Conrad.

Community Election Vote Set for County ASC Board

Balloting in the ASC community elections ended November 26. Ballots will be counted December 2 at 10 00 am by the election tabulation board at the Teton County ASC office. On December 12, community chairman elect will meet to form the county ASC committee for next year. The committee will direct programs including Agricultural Conservation, Price Support, Storage Facility, Wheat Acreage Allotment and Marketing Quota, Soil Bank and Wool incentive programs. Newly elected county and community committeemen assume office January 1.

Dixie Hansen Weds Edwin Gebhart in Lutheran Ceremony

Dixie Ann Hansen daughter of Mr and Mrs Friis Hansen of Chateau and Edwin Gebhart son of Mr and Mrs Art Gebhart of Bynum were married Friday November 15 at Trinity Lutheran church with Rev A Bernard Gravdal officiating. Witnesses were Roberta Hansen and Roy Gebhart. They plan to reside in Choteau.

Andersen Takes Ownership of Sullivan Store at Dupuyer

Don L. Andersen has purchased and taken possession of the Sullivan store in Dupuyer. His wife and baby expect to join him later. Mr. and Mrs. Nevin Caskey will spend the winter in Mesa, Arizona.

Elk hunting seasons opened in two Montana areas

The Montana Fish and Game department authorized elk seasons in two districts. In Teton County a bull elk area south of the Teton River and near Highway 33 will run until February 28 1958. In Judith Basin County an either sex area along the south of Highway 87 and surrounding Sage Creek Road will run from November 10 to February 28, aiming to keep elk off private property.

Coroner's jury ties double shootings to ranch dispute

A coroner's jury found Edna McDonald died from a gunshot wound inflicted by Melvin E. Smith and that Smith died by self-inflicted gunshot at a ranch west of Augusta after a dispute over his discharge. Funeral services for Smith were held at Augusta Community Church. Postmaster advises early Christmas mail to ensure delivery, urging secure packaging, legible addresses, and correct labeling with guidance on mailing and rates.

GOP Women Hear Election Board Report

The Republican Women's Club of Teton County held its final year meeting in the Teton county court room at Chateau on Friday November 22 at 8 p.m. A new club constitution was read and adopted and 154 members were reported. A special officer election meeting was set for December 3 after illness delayed the slate. Mrs Olle Duits presented a report on election boards and Mrs Irene Ward recapped the October 2021 Great Falls meeting where state party leaders invited various groups to outline views and goals for GOP support.

St Josephs Holy Name Day of Recollection

The Holy Name Society of St Josephs Parish sponsors a day of recollection for men from Chateau Augusta and Bynum on the first Sunday of Advent Dec 1. Conservation Participants Need Contract

Teton county farmers placing land in the Conservation Reserve must sign and maintain an approved cover for the contract period. Lyall Schaefer, ASC chair, said if existing cover suffices no new vegetation is required, and if weather allows, new cover should be planted next spring. Extensions may be granted for drought or conditions, and temporary crops may be required to prevent erosion in hard-to-establish areas.

Power Crews Hurdle Weekend Wind Rout

Montana Power crews battled weekend high winds that caused two fires in Chateau proper and damaged lines in Augusta. A wire whipping into a Cottonwood behind the Stott residence sparked a tree fire noticed by police, while a 110 volt line arced on a tree at Ed Obernolte’s home. Wires down and a pole on the Pendroy to Pondecra line disrupted streetlights. officials described fewer cascading poles than usual.

Eastern Star Grand Matron to Visit Fidelity Chapter

On Friday December six Mrs Kathryn C Johnson Worthy Grand Matron of Montana will visit Fidelity Chapter No 18 OES Chateau. Portland Couple Dismissed After Bowman's Corners Crash

Mr and Mrs Charles Rutherford of Portland Oregon were treated at Teton Memorial hospital after an automobile accident at Bowman's Corners on November 6. They were discharged last Tuesday and returned by train to Portland accompanied by Mrs Arthur A McAuley who has since gone home.

Cutting in Power-Doubling Substation Begins Dec 3

Montana Power local manager Enoch Stroh announces the new substation will double area power within two weeks. Two shutdowns are planned for Chateau, one east of Main Street on Dec 3 from 8:30 am for about 2.5 hours, and another for the west side with tentative Dec 10 timing to be announced.

Four Class B Teams to Vie Here Dec 13 14

Four Northern Division Class B schools will take part in the third annual Chateau Invitational basketball tournament on December 13 and 14. Browning replaces Conrad and is expected to field a strong squad. First night matchups pair Browning against Fairfield and Chateau against Valier with the losers meeting Saturday for 3rd and 4th place and the final deciding the championship. The Bulldogs have won the event twice previously.

Holiday Hours In Most Stores Begin Friday
