One Hunter Wounded by Stray Bullet in Elk Hunt
James Whorral of Dutton, among many elk hunters in neighboring hills since the season opened, was brought to Chautauqua last week with a thigh wound from a stray bullet fired by a member of his party. No bones were hit and serious results are not expected. The accident occurred over on Big River.

M A Wilcox of Chateau Montana was found dead at his ranch three miles north of Bob. Coroner and sheriff concluded death likely occurred Friday night from apoplexy. He had a long ranching career, survived by wife and three children. Funeral planned for Saturday afternoon at two.

Death of Senator Henry Cabot Lodge at 74
Senator Henry Cabot Lodge of Massachusetts, 31 years a national figure and longtime Republican leader, died at his Cambridge home after a four day illness. He had attended the Republican National Convention in Cleveland recently and was known as a historian and writer in addition to his political leadership.

First Snow Storm Drives Temperatures to 14 Below
Below zero weather grips Teton county with the season’s first real snow storm. A several inch snowfall coated the area and the mercury plunged to 14 below zero. Residents spent the day stocking coal and inspecting plumbing as preparations for a prolonged siege began.
