City Improves Water Plant Cutting Power Use and Boosting Output

City officials report substantial savings and improved service after installing a 40 horsepower motor and a new pump at the water plant. The upgrade, made after a previous motor burned out when a tree branch damaged the line, raises output by about 125 gallons per minute to 775 GPM while reducing the current month’s power bill from 244 to 176 dollars. Costs are estimated at 1200 to 1400 dollars, to be paid December 1 from tax money, with Mayor Hentges predicting a payback in a few years through energy and water savings. The Fairbanks Morse Co produced the new equipment.
