Brooks addresses Teton county seniors on individual responsibility

Dr Wendell S Brooks newly named president of Intermountain Union College urged high school seniors to resist submerging the individual. He spoke without a manuscript praising Christian training and citing Lindbergh as an example while urging personal responsibility over passing the buck.

Teton County High School Holds Class Day Exercises

The senior class conducted its class day exercises Tuesday evening in the high school auditorium. The program included humorous takes on the faculty and janitory staff. Miss Margaret Campbell announced, Miss Eleanor Crossen read the class history, Miss Florence Trescott gave the class poem, Miss Helen Dale read the class will, and Velma Edwards and Chick Sulgrove performed the class prophecy. A large audience attended and appreciated the event.

Carroll files for county clerk renomination in republican bid

George A. Carroll, appointed county clerk and recorder in 1929 after W. H. Webb’s death, filed Wednesday for the Republican nomination. An Ireland native, he came to Iowa in 1913, served in WWI with the 82nd Division, earned the Distinguished Service Cross, and worked as an accountant and clerk before his 1929 appointment. He has been active in American Legion, VFW, and Chateau Boy Scouts. He is married.

Mozer Plans New Shoe Shop and Home in Chateau

Joe Mozer longtime owner of Mozer Shoe shop in Chateau announces immediate start on a new brick and tile building to house the shop and provide a dwelling for his family. The project will occupy part of the block west of the courthouse previously used as a skating rink. The shop will close during construction and reopen June 15.

Commencement Exercises At Teton County High School

Evening exercises at the high school auditorium feature 28 graduates of the class of 1930. Superintendent I W Smith of Great Falls will deliver the address. Class officers are Ellsworth Strand president Jesse Malone vice president Eleanor Cryossen secretary treasurer. Sponsor Thos B Irvin colors green and white flower rose motto Give to the world the best you have and the best will come back to you. Program includes Priest's March processional and Mendelssohn piece.

Memorial Day Exercises Planned by Legion and VFW

Final arrangements set for tomorrow’s Memorial Day observance under the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. A parade forms at the court house at 10 AM, then proceeds to the cemetery for speeches, the Gettysburg Address, and a firing squad salute. All ex service members are urged to participate.

4 H Club Organization Near Completion in Teton County

Up to Monday ten 4 H clubs had been organized in Teton county with plans for five more. County Agent Robert Clarkson directs the work aiming to finish by June 1. Existing clubs include Chateau Agawam Fairfield Farmington Pendroy with various local leaders named.

Sloughs Near Choteau Closed to Fishing for Three Years

The State Fish and Game commission closed Stenson slough one mile south of Choteau and the S. T. slough about five miles southeast of Choteau to fishing for three years. The order, approved at Helena last Friday, takes effect June 7 and makes fishing unlawful and punishable thereafter.

Smitts Enroute To Holland Visit Near Bole

Mr and Mrs Conrad Smitt of Spokane arrived at the home of Mr and Mrs Standish near Bole last Friday. They spent Saturday afternoon in Chateau visiting old acquaintances and left Great Falls Sunday evening. They will stop in Chicago Niagara and New York City then sail for Holland to spend the summer with relatives.

Sojourneying Masons Host Dinner Dance at Masonic Temple

Sojourneying Masons known as Mavericks hosted a dinner and dance at the Masonic temple Tuesday night for members and their wives and other Eastern Star members. The event opened with a 7:30 dinner followed by vocal solos by Rev. Kaemmer, with Mrs. Nelson at the piano, then remarks of appreciation from D. P. Fabrick and a response from W. G. Bloomdal. Hosts listed include D. P. Fabrick and several couples. about 190 attended.

Miss Evelyn Hansen Weds Harvey Peden At Home Ceremony

A Sunday afternoon wedding took place at Mrs O Hansen’s home as Miss Evelyn LaVerne Hansen married Harvey F E Peden of Great Falls. The Rev. Harry T Stong officiated with the ring service. A dinner for 22 followed, honoring the bride’s grandparents celebrating their 53rd anniversary. The couple will reside in Havre after an extended wedding trip visiting Chicago Hollandsburg and New York.

Prizes Displayed by Local Sportsmen Club

Prizes for top youth scorers in destroying predatory animals and birds are on exhibit in the J J Hannan store window. The Chateau Red and Gun Club allocated 45 dollars for prizes including two 22 caliber rifles and a split bamboo fishing rod. Dr E J Craig selected the prizes and Harrison Craig will oversee the contest upon his return from Mayo Clinic Rochester Minnesota.

County Agent Declares War On Obnoxious Weeds

County agent Robert Clarkson outlines plans for a weed control program using calcium chlorate as the main chemical named altacide. Last year tests targeted Canadian thistles wild morning glory and quack grass with a high pressure sprayer to be demonstrated at several farms and locations this summer.
