Teton County Public Athletic Meet Draws Crowds

The annual Teton county public athletic meet held Saturday in Chateau exceeded attendance expectations. Awards combined with scholastic results placed Power first in village class and Baker first in rural class, with six gold medals given for top point scorers.

Former Choteau Forester Engaged in Elk Study

William A. Rush former assistant forest supervisor of the Lewis and Clark national forest now with the forest service based in Livingston spent the weekend in Chateau for official business and visiting friends. He is leading a study of the seasonal range feed habits and wintering of the Northern elk herd numbering about 17000 and spanning Yellowstone Absaroka and Gallatin forests. The study is funded by a Montana state game commission National Park Service and forest service agreement.

Primary registration ends May 29 in Teton County

Electors must register by 5 p m on May 29 as required by state law interpreted by County Clerk George Carroll ex officio registrar. Primary election is set for July 15 with filing deadlines and fees outlined for county and state offices.

Choteau Falls Short in Opening Loss to Bootleggers

In front of a large crowd Choteau lost 4 to 0 to the Great Falls Bootleggers in the season opener. Otness hit a two bagger and the visitors capitalized with a fourth inning rally as Chateau struggled to score. A notable triple play by Choteau and Mayor Coffey’s wild pitch highlighted a defensively tight game.

Great Falls Scout Leader Highlights Global Ties For Troop 51

The address by Mr. Maclay reminded Choteau area Scouts they belong to a worldwide organization. Scoutmaster Carroll thanked the boys at closing. Visitors from Great Falls included Robert Sanding Stephen Willey and John Snyder. Troop 51 is sponsored by the Choteau Lions Club.

Baccalaureate Services Planned at Teton High Auditorium

The Teton county high school holds baccalaureate Sunday evening with Dr. Wendell S. Brooks of Helena as speaker and Irving W. Smith of Great Falls delivering the commencement address. Twenty eight seniors graduate with Ellen Shields salutatorian and Thelma Swenson valedictorian. week events include class day and junior prom through May 29.

Chateau Creamery Begins Commercial Ice Cream Production

After two months of prep costing over 4000 dollars the Chateau Creamery starts producing Quality Brand ice cream. Manager W W Smith says the pasteurized cream and milk product is pure and the facility uses calcium chloride brine freezing with a viscolizer for smooth texture. Bulk and brick formats are offered and 400 public schoolchildren are treated to free cups at the plant.

Givens Ranch House Burns West of Chateau

Fire last Friday night destroyed the T H Givens ranch house located a mile west of Chateau. The unoccupied building, valued at about 2500 dollars and well insured, burned around 9 o clock with unknown causes. Volunteers responded but city equipment was not used. The log structure incorporated wood from the old Sam Bird house. Givens rebuilt it 12 to 15 years ago with modern additions.

Shelby Educator Jackson Chooses Seattle Home

Lawrence P. Jackson former Shelby high school faculty member and solo director of the band will move from Shelby to Seattle with his wife to begin their future home. He has accepted a position with the Pacific Music house and previously taught at Browning high school where he built the Indian band. He also directed the American Legion band in this city and led various musical groups.

Mrs B I Packers Mother Dies in Wisconsin

Mrs George Huber mother of Mrs Bert I Packer of this city died in Poynette Wisconsin shortly after midnight last Friday. Mr Packer learned of the death by wire and a sister telephoned to Mrs Packer as the end neared. Mrs Huber had been an invalid for years and leaves two sons and five daughters including Mrs Packer and Mrs Harry Morrison of Helena.

Vacation Schedule Sets Day Services at Chateau Church

The Methodist church of Chateau begins a day schedule from June 1 through September 1 under Rev. E R Kuemmer. Morning worship runs 9 to about 10 with combined Sunday school and service, and no evening service to encourage daytime attendance and outdoor activities.
