Reports from Chas. Green indicate he is improving and is not expected to be disfigured as much as first feared. He cannot recall the accident and believes a stallion may have injured him. doctors suspect a horse forefoot blow rather than a kick, with nasal bones driven downward. If no complications arise, he is expected to recover soon.
Fire insurance duper in Dupuyer Montana listed under F H Federhen a U S Commissioner Justice of the Peace and Notary Public role in the damaged notice.
Montana Rep Charles N Pray argues 20 million acres sit above coal and 13 million withdrawn, yet near none will be used for coal in fifty years. He supports the Mondell bill to allow agricultural entry while reserving mining rights, citing farmer growth and land settlement. The Democratic minority opposes, saying enough land is open without opening coal lands.
The World at Large notes that Princeton University has been named as the beneficiary of an $810,000,000 bequest from Isaac C. Wyman class of 1848. Across the nation ten days of severe weather hit the southwest with tornadoes floods and snow in several states. May 20 saw the burial of Edward VII at Windsor with nine European monarchs in attendance.
Belleview mail now leaves on Mondays and Fridays and returns the same day replacing the Elizabeth schedule. Miss Clara Richards returns to J. R. Young ranch for the summer. Robert H. Miller toured Choteau from Saturday to Sunday. William Cook killed a four foot two inch bull snake near his home, the only one of its kind seen this side of Choteau. School trustees held a special meeting Saturday at the school house with much business transacted. Donald Davies of Sunnyside rode into the area for a few days last week. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Young returned from Chateau Saturday. Belleview school closed for summer last Friday.
A letter from W. M. Hazlett recalls Choteau Montana’s town founding by I. N. Hazlett and A. B. Hamilton, names early merchants and residents, notes changes since the 1880s, and mentions Hamilton and Hazlett living in Seattle plus Wallace Taylor linked to the health department.
The Choteau public schools end the year with a splendid display of art and English work. Visitors toured tastefully decorated rooms admiring each pupil from primary to eighth grade graduates. Principal Thompson and staff earned credit for the fine exhibit of student efforts.
The Industrial society plans a lyceum lecture course for Choteau and vicinity this winter. Negotiations with an entertainment bureau representative suggest a possible program of musical entertainments and lectures for the town. Such courses are popular in small inland towns, where high quality entertainment is scarce and patronage is strong. The ladies seek encouragement for this new venture.
C S Brewer of Ada Ohio tours the city promoting the Great Falls Automatic Telephone Co with 1100 subscribers and plans to double in a year. The firm has acquired C H Drakes lines and aims to extend lines across Teton county. They secured franchises to build exchanges at Chester and Havre and plan to connect Brady to the toll system. Prominent investors include W G Conrad Geo H Stanton and Tom Couch. Poles are being prepared for a toll line from Waugbo to Sun River and Augusta.
The Valerian reports a proposed well graded road between Choteau and Valier is now a live issue. The right of way can be obtained at no cost with land donated in exchange for benefits. Four bridges will be required and overall costs will be modest. The route would cut distance by about twenty miles and open a productive farming district. Commercial clubs urged to push preliminary steps promptly.
Announcement of the marriage plans for C O Larson of Madison Minnesota and Alma Daley of Chateau daughter of J J Daley. The ceremony is set for June 1 at 8 15 pm with a musicale by Cora Larson sister of the groom at Woodmen hall Chateau. Larson studied music at the Minneapolis Conservatory and the public is invited.
Contest affidavit filed by James Manix against Homestead entry 1822 for lots in section 2 and 35 township 2 north range 8 west and accompanying lands. John S. Wilson alleged to have abandoned residence for over six months. Hearing set before U.S. Commissioner June 27 1910 and final hearing July 6 1910 at Great Falls. Publication ordered due to lack of personal service.
Ww Cowgill traveled to Helena on Tuesday and commencement exercises are set for tomorrow at the high school assembly hall. Mrs Verge hosted a large party Saturday, Roe Wilcox left Monday for Dupuyer, and he attended school here last term. Prof Tompson left Saturday for Three Forks to spend the summer. John D Godwin mayor of Elizabeth visited the county seat Monday and Tuesday.
Arthur Hirshberg came back Sunday after a weeks long hospital stay in Butte to recover from nasal surgery.
A fine new showcase and counter have been installed at the City Meat Market, greatly improving the market’s appearance.
G. M. Coffey was at his Citizens bank post for several days this week after a ten day absence at his sheep ranch. He returned to the ranch yesterday.
A campaign to incor porate the town of Valier advances with a circulated petition to county commissioners. Valier officials claim a population of 800 residents as the effort gathers pace.
G B Christian came over Tuesday in his pen auto from Augusta returning the next day with his brother P B Christian and family they plan to visit relatives and friends in Augusta before leaving for California.
County Coroner Connor traveled to Brady Surday to arrange the burial of Gus A. Johnson a carpenter who died Saturday night from blood poisoning caused by a finger sliver Relatives later took charge of the ashes at Conrad.
E Wachsmuth will hold German Lutheran services at the Burton bench next Sunday May 29 at 10 30 a m in the German Lutheran church followed by a short organ recital of the new chapel organ. An English Lutheran service will be at 8 o clock Sunday evening in Hodgskiss hall in Choteau.
Choteau residents form a planning committee Jas Innes Jas Eckford and Dr DeCoursey later joined by Julius Hirshberg and K G McLean to organize a town wide Fourth of July program. They aim to deliver a strong, entertaining celebration with full authority to arrange events and activities. Rev Heizer falls ill but recovers to lead Sunday services. A bank move in Cut Bank draws $15000 in subscriptions. Sterling McDonald and Mrs Rimmel arrive from Riverside California with Mrs Rimmel staying for the summer.
Monday night featured Halley's comet bright in view with a visible tail and a clear sky allowing a fine spectacle of a total lunar eclipse. A number of local residents watched the celestial events with interest.
P B Christians sale drew strong attendance with many local and country visitors. Goods sold well at good prices. The Christian family will visit Augusta relatives before moving to El Cajon California. He has long been active in sheep ranching and hotel business in Chateau and serves on the local school board. Mrs Christian will be missed in social circles.
Mrs. C. F. Green came from Great Falls to attend urgent ranch business and found her husband in the hospital. Doctors removed blood clots and used antiseptics to prevent infection after an accident. He claimed the gate struck him, not a kick, and was not fully rational at the time.
In the District Court of Montana Teton County notice is given that on June 3 1910 at 10:00 am in the court room the will of William Duncan Robertson deceased will be proven and Mary W Porter seeks letters testamentary contest possible. James Gibson Clerk. First pub 5-19-10.
Charles Carlin and Rose Jefferson were married last evening at 8 30 in the Catholic church by Father M P McCormack. The ceremony was private with immediate family and a few close friends. Miss Beatrice Jefferson served as bridesmaid and John Boltkamp attended the groom.
Washington reports under the enlarged homestead act the interior department designated 69 000 acres in township 27 north ranges 4 and 6 west Montana meridian for disposition. The land lies in Teton county southwest of Dupuyer and north of Byoun near Carey lands Coffey Wellenstein Porter ranches. Most parcels are already entered and few 320 acre homesteads remain in single tracts.
News reports George Lanstrum’s brother is new Helena postmaster while Minneapolis manufacturers plan a Great Falls visit and travel west to Missoula. A Swan River man killed his wife and then himself, and a railroad project from Armstead to Dillon is discussed. An 18 year old, Victor Fey, suffered a crowbar injury but is expected to recover after hospital care.
Seven old log buildings at the poor farm will be sold for cash at the courthouse front door in Chateau on Saturday May 28 1910 at 2 o clock in the afternoon. Purchaser must remove the buildings and the board reserves the right to reject any and all bids. E C Garrett County Clerk
