Chateau American Legion Holds Flag Burning Ceremony

The Chateau American Legion Post No. 6 held a flag burning Sunday at the city park with about 100 attendees including Cub Scout Pack No. 51. The unserviceable flag that flew over the post office was destroyed by burn after Legion members determined it could no longer be used.

Memorial Day Services Planned Tuesday at Choteau Cemetery

Memorial Day services are scheduled for Tuesday May 30 at 10 45 a.m. at Choteau Cemetery under the American Legion and VFW. The program includes bugler graced by Everett Sassa, wreaths, veterans names, and a Memorial Day address, with an additional 2 30 p.m. service in Farmington Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. City and state offices and many businesses will close.

Public Asked To Cooperate At Cemetery

City of Chateau officials urge residents to follow cemetery rules including no plants on graves, all flowers in containers, regular cultivation of existing plantings, use of dirt in containers, and keeping containers in good condition to aid mowing and avoid removal.

Chateau Baseball Leagues Seek Volunteers and Funds

About 40 boys have signed up for Little League in Chateau with more expected. Pee Wee division also fields 40 players plus. Practices are at the ball park on Monday Wednesday and Friday at 6 30 pm with Pee Wees meeting May 29 at 7 pm. Entry fee of 2 per player for insurance. The program, run by the Chateau American Legion, needs coaches umpires and many volunteers to prepare fields and purchase equipment. Students under Mrs Marge Han usa will perform in three piano recitals at . Han usa's Chateau studio invites public attendance. Road test schedule changes and court house site

No drivers license tests will be given on Monday May 29. Starting Tuesday June 6 the Highway Patrol examiner will be at the courthouse in Chateau each Tuesday to issue exams. Mr and Mrs Jay Dunckel and family spent the weekend with her brother in law and sister Mr and Mrs Dale Mahlum and family in Missoula.

Villager Stock Auction Sells Farmland Goods and Vehicles

A public auction last Saturday sold all merchandise from The Villager and a pickup, a car belonging to Mr. and Mrs. John Davison, former Chateau residents. The estate trustee Gene O. Dillner, Great Falls, oversaw four parcels with bids meeting 75 percent of appraisals. Drug items went to James Donahue for 3,000 dollars. hardware to Sanvik Brothers for 5,000. a 1959 Ford pickup sold for 330 and a 1963 Ford Fairlane for 630.

Choteau Teams Shine At Shelby Junior High Meet

Choteau Elementary School girls won the Northern Division meet at Shelby with 74 points led by Debbie Reiding who claimed high point honors with 19 points and two records. Boys from Choteau placed fourth as other schools including Cut Bank Browning Conrad Sunburst Fort Benton and Shelby scored. Reiding set records in the 50 yard low hurdles and long jump as Marcie Curtis Paulette Wilkie and others earned ribbons in Class A events.

Commencement Exercises For 54 CHS Seniors

Graduation at Chateau High School honored 54 seniors with Father Edward McGowan delivering the principal address. Valedictorian Hope Hensley and salutatorian Virginia Baker led honors, with multiple scholarships and vocational awards announced for the class.

Over 300 Compete in Montana AAU Junior Olympics in Choteau

Choteau hosts 300 to 400 young athletes for the upper half of the Montana AAU Junior Olympics on May 28 at Choteau High School track. Participants include 14 17 year olds from 30 communities with notable performers from last week’s state meet. Local sponsors include the Chateau Chamber of Commerce JAYCEES VFW Lions American Legion. Legion runs a concession.

Fireworks Fund Seeks Extras for 400 Display

Fireworks fund chair Mrs. Robert Dellno reports $190 raised with a goal of $400 for a bigger display. Community donations urged before June 1 to qualify for a possible discount, with collection points at Bob's Ford Sales and Dellno. CHS Trackmen Place Ninth At State Meet

Chateau High School finished ninth in class B at the state finals in Billings. Conrad led with 44 of the team’s points, as Sunburst, Chateau, Browning, Shelby, and Cut Bank scored, while in class C Simms placed third and Power Pirates earned 4 points. Poppy Day Proclaimed In Helena Area

Mayor John Dunckel proclaims Saturday May 27 as Poppy Day. The American Legion Auxiliary sponsors the event to memorialize war dead and disabled veterans. Poppies for Montana are produced at Fort Harrison by disabled veterans and funds support welfare work. Volunteers sell poppies through the Auxiliary to fund relief efforts. Members of American Legion Auxiliary Until No. 6 will sell poppies that Saturday.

Explorers Build Bows Under Scout Leader Charles Allen

Chateau Explorer Scout troop members display bows completed under Charles Allen’s supervision. Project began last September, finished bows valued around 35 dollars, materials cost 12 dollars per bow, pull ranges 40 to 60 pounds.
