Swortzel to Deliver Chateau High 1952 Valedictory

Richard Swortzel son of Mr and Mrs Charles Swortzel will be valedictorian speaker at the Chateau high school 1952 graduation exercises. He edited the Growl yearbook and belongs to National Honor Society debate team senior play cast and letterman's club as manager. He was a Boys State delegate and a blue ribbon scholarship winner at Bozeman.

Choteau High School to Honor 26 Seniors at 1952 Commencement

Twenty six members of the Choteau High School class of 1952 will receive diplomas and awards in the auditorium at 8 p.m. The program includes processional invocation salutatorian address and valedictory by Frank Swartzel. D. D. Reed and R. C. Graham speak. Barbara Zgoda and Laura Olsen perform. Barbara Zgoda also sings. E. C. Hensley awards diplomas. Rev H L Engdahl and Clarice Henderson participate.

High School Runner Smashes State Mile in Class B Meet

Chateau Bulldog Lyall Crary won the state class B mile at Missoula in 4 39.2 defeating Frank Heitzman of Hardin, with Crary also taking third in the 880 yards. Crary’s time is unofficially a Missoula class B record, contributing nine points for Choteau to place tenth statewide and top north Montana team.

Oil Wells Near Pendroy Report Strong Early Production

Winkler and Son's Comnole No 1 four miles east of Pendroy produced over 150 barrels of 32 gravity oil with no water on Tuesday. Nearby Winkler No 1 Lusty swabbed at over 500 barrels of 40 gravity oil daily in initial testing. Big West DuBois No 2 shows at 20 feet in Madison limestone but may be dry. Empire-Keith well seven miles NW found water at Madison top and is shutting off water after a show of oil.

Eighth Grade Graduates 35 At Exercises

Eighth grade graduates 35 at commencement exercises for Choteau public school held in the high school auditorium. Rev Harold Engdahl gave the invocation and benediction. Jean Rausch spoke on Education, Buddy McCorkle on Americanism, with Marie Vance and soloists Beverly Mozer and Wallis Cherry performing. Supt R C Graham presented diplomas as the three top scholastic students spoke.

Three Pound Trout Wins 25 First Prize

Julius Wuerthner of Great Falls won 25 dollars for the largest trout on opening day of the fishing season. The 3 lb 8% oz Rainbow was caught in Sun River and judged by Antler Bar and Lounge in Chateau. Clyde Darby of Choteau trailed with a 2 lb 10 oz Eastern Brook near Beaver Dams on the Teton.

July Fourth Chateau Rodeo Adds Bleachers For Crowd

The Chateau celebration committee announced eight rides and about twenty concessions for the July Fourth events plus rodeos on July 3 and 4. Oral Zumwalt and Bud Lake will direct the rodeo, and new bleachers will be built after last year’s crowd exceeded capacity, with volunteer help sought to complete the seating.

Fishermen's Gathering Delights Eureka Lake Like Coney Island

Opening day of Montana's 1952 fishing season drew record crowds as Eureka Lake near Cha teau resembled Coney Island with hundreds of cars and up to fifty boats. Season rules set 15 fish per day up to 10 pounds across trout char whitefish and salmon, grayling five, wall-eye pike and sauger 15 up to 15 pounds, and bass 15 pounds with one fish. Dolly Varden in Flathead Lake tributaries now required 18 inch minimum length.

Mrs Leithead, 79, of Choteau, Dies After Illness

Mrs John Leithead, 79, mother of Mrs Otto Wagnild of Choteau, died yesterday afternoon after a lingering illness. Services are set for 1 PM Sunday May 25 at Choteau Methodist Church with the Rev H L Engdahl and the OES participating. Burial will be as directed.

Dr Hamilton Halts Practice Moves Clinic to Conrad Area

Dr. Robert S. Hamilton has closed his Choteau office after three years and plans to move his clinic to the Conrad region. The modern clinic building will be moved in two sections from its Choteau location near city hall to a site on Porter bench, about 12 miles south of Conrad, and be converted into a family residence. He will maintain an office in downtown Conrad and continue practice in Conrad and Choteau alternately.

German Shepherd Dog Found Dead At Clinic

Dr and Mrs Robert S Hamilton reported their three year old German shepherd Cito found dead on the clinic lawn Monday morning possibly from poisoning. The dog had left the clinic about 5 am and was found at 8 am. Police warn dog poisoning endangers children and recall a past four year era when many dogs died and children were feared at risk.
