Raymond Kelly of the county extension office reports rainfall at the Choteau Weather Bureau station totaling 1.95 inches so far in May. A record of last night shows 0.78 inches measured, with the data compiled this morning.

Lions Club silver anniversary hosts hear Waldie keynote

International Director William L Waldie told about 200 Lions and guests at the Chateau Lions club silver anniversary in the Methodist church banquet room. Waldie from Vancouver praised cross border fellowship and urged Lions to keep selflessness and decorum while noting Lions international unity beyond borders.

Man Held for Questions on Bad Checks

Walterazure was picked up by the sheriff and held for investigation at Choteau awaiting handwriting experts to probe forged checks passed recently in Choteau Fairfield and Great Falls. The forgeries used check blanks stolen from Beckman Brothers Great Falls. Azure was captured by Dillon Police and brought to Chateau County Jail after Sheriff Al Peterson traveled from Dillon.

Hardball Nine Clinches 18-3 Baseball Victory Over Softball Nine

Hurler Duane Reisch allowed three hits as the Choteau Independents defeated the Choteau softball team 18 to 3 on the Choteau diamond. Johnson and Snyder pitched for the softball nine, giving up 16 hits. Best hitters for the hardball squad were Cecil Deming, Dick Nordhagen, Neil Bandow, and Reisch with three hits each.

Lions Club of Choteau Celebrates 25 Years of Service

The Choteau Lions mark 25 years since founding on May 14 1927 with hundreds of community activities. Originating from five residents led by Ray Nelson and aided by Great Falls Lions members Julius Wuerthner and Dr J C MacGregor the club grew to 77 members and maintained continuous meetings.

Morrey Elected Governor of Chateau Moose Lodge

George Morey of Conraid is elected as governor of the Chateau Moose lodge for the coming year. Crary Wins Yale Harvard Freshman Scholarships

Lyall S. Crary of Choteau earned a freshman scholarship to a Cambridge university for 1952-53. He was salutatorian of Choteau High School and one of 296 recipients from 43 states and abroad chosen from 1,300 applicants. Crary also received a Yale scholarship offer.

Red Cross Drive Raises 3102 in Teton County

In 1952 the American Red Cross fund drive collected 3102.66 in Teton county communities. Fairfield led with 922.05, Duttons followed with 802, and Chateau residents contributed 770. County chairman R W Gronberg thanks all chairmen for strong cooperation.

The public school held the eighth grade graduation exercises on May 2 at 7 30 pm in the high school auditorium.

Record-Smashing Northern Divisional Track Meet Held at Chateau

The Northern Divisional meet at Chateau last Saturday produced nine new divisional records and five field records across twelve events. Fort Benton led with 46 points, Browning 30, Chateau 26.5, Cut Bank 20.4, Fairfield 18, with Great Falls Central and Conrad tied 7th at 17, Shelby 10, and Chinook 7. Local stars Maurice Embleton and Lyall Crary led individual scoring while Max Cebulla won the cross country two mile.

Grant Helps Home Economics Dept at Chateau High

The Chateau high school home economics department received a $75 grant from the Sears Roebuck foundation to fund room decorations and improvements. Senior girls and freshmen boys contributed by making slip covers, varnishing furniture, and painting. The public is invited to inspect the upgraded department.

Creek Bridge Construction Begins in Chateau and Teton County

Under city engineer Obert Peterson the city of Chateau and Teton county start building a new bridge over Spring Creek one block east of the Cornell hotel. Work began Tuesday afternoon and the structure will use two 76 foot arch corrugated pipes with cement approaches and a dirt fill. The new road and sidewalk will be atop the fill, greatly widening vehicle traffic space compared with the old bridge.

Wife of Methodist Bishop Will Speak

Mrs. Ralph Ward wife of a Methodist bishop from China will speak to the total Methodist church next Wednesday afternoon May 21 at 3 o'clock. The public is invited to hear Mrs. Ward who with her husband recently arrived in the United States to attend the general conference concluded in San Francisco. Mrs. Ward a missionary in China for years before marriage knows conditions in occupied China and will speak about recent happenings there. Chateau is her final speaking appointment in the state. She will leave May 21 evening to join her husband who has been busy at the general conference.

Graduation set for seniors at Chateau High School

Baccalaureate services for the class of 1952 will be held in the high school auditorium Sunday night May 18 at 8 p.m. Rev. Thomas J. Gannon of St. Joseph's church to deliver the sermon. Commencement exercises follow Thursday night May 22 at 8 p.m. in the auditorium with Dominic J. Reed, English instructor, as speaker.

Cub Supper Slated Tonight At City Park

The Cub Scouts hold their final meeting of the year at City Park with a supper for cubs and parents. Awards will mark the year’s performance. The cub committee met at J. Burr Huffman’s home to plan the event. Lunch funded by John Van Bolcum and Huffman. About $105 profit from the May 2 carnival at the pavilion, Huffman said. Gratitude expressed to den mothers and cub master Tom Morton for their leadership. This has been a wonderful year for cub scouting in Choteau.
