Scout Circus Delights 600 Plus at Chateau High School

More than 600 spectators watched the scout circus at Chateau on Saturday with a parade banquet and field events. About 230 cubs and scouts from Browning Dutton Fairfield Augusta and Choteau joined the activities. Winners included Dutton and Choteau in several events and a wartime style parade float built by Augusta scouts.

Malones Attend Atlantic City National Meet

Mr and Mrs Carl Malone of Chateau return from a three week tour. Mrs Malone was installed as worthy high priestess of the White Shrine at the Atlantic City national convention attended by about 3000 others. Carl Malone chaired the Montana Stockgrowers transportation committee at Bozeman and toured Philadelphia and Washington during the trip.

Funeral Service Held Thursday For MecClenhan

Funeral services for Robert Smiley McClenhan 173 Collins rancher were conducted at the Methodist church in Chateau last Thursday afternoon. He died suddenly after a heart attack May 9 and is buried in Chateau cemetery. The Rev H L Engdahl officiated with a sextet and solo. He is survived by his wife and a sister Anna Paris of Huntington Pa plus two sisters in law of Chester Pa and a number of nieces and nephews. Born April 23 1873 in Millerstown Pa he lived in Chester Pa Sollid Mont and finally near Collins Montana for 24 years.

Funeral Services For Mrs Bouma Held In Bozeman

Funeral services for Mrs Peter Bouma were held Tuesday at the Christian Reform church in Bozeman with about 70 friends and relatives attending. Burial followed at Bozeman cemetery. Born in Holland in 187x she came to America in 1904 and lived in Fairfield before homesteading north of Bole. Survived by three sons Louis Herman and John and a daughter Mrs Fanny Blanksma, all in Bozeman or the surrounding area.

Barton to Attend New Ford Showing

Al Barton, a local Ford dealer in Chateau, will fly to Chicago Monday for a preview of Ford's new model next Tuesday. The preview occurs in the Colosseum with all 180 Fargo branch dealers attending in a designated section dressed in cowboy attire.

City Council Grants Building Permits And Land Transfers

City council approves eleven building permits and transfers land to the golf club in exchange for land near a new water tank. They also endorse a new street lighting system to begin soon and be completed by July 4, plus a $298 grant for summer recreation. A 30 day Alderman leave is granted.

Body of Warren Daley To Arrive Next Week

The body of Warren Daley, a navy machinist mate from the recent war, will arrive in Choteau next Thursday from overseas. A special military service is planned at the Choteau Methodist church and cemetery on Saturday, May 29 at 2 p.m., with the American Legion and VFW posts assisting. Daley was shot by Japanese after being a war prisoner. his attackers were convicted of a war crime in Yokohama.

Meetings Set by Teton Republicans for Visiting Officials

The Teton county Republican committee announced a visit by Senator J. Hugo Aronson and Ernest Immel. A regular meeting at 8 p.m. at the Chateau courthouse is planned for May 25 with a dinner at Beaupre cafe at 6:30 p.m. The dinner is informal and open to interested persons without reservations.

Walter Snyder a 12 year old seventh grader represented Chateau in the state wide marble contest sponsored by the Montana Junior Chamber of Commerce. Lynn Engdahl, grade four, placed second in the local tournament.

Baccalaureate Exercises Set for Chateau High May 23

Baccalaureate services for the Chateau High class of 1948 begin Sunday at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium with Rev. James J. Sheerin delivering the sermon. Graduation for 33 seniors occurs Friday May 28 with Tom J. Davis of Butte giving the address.

Hospital Drive Auction Boosts Local Fund Raising

Choteau Chamber of Commerce hosted a hospital auction last Saturday raising 632.75. When added to prior gifts from the Teton Saddle Club and American Legion auxiliary the total reached 1,397.75, surpassing the drive quota by 297.75. Final financial statements and construction bids are expected by July 15.

Plan to Petition for County Cemetery Unit

A meeting decided to circulate a petition for a county wide cemetery district. Representatives from Bynum Chateau Dutton Fairfield Farmington and Power attended. The plan proposes funds allocated to local cemetery associations for upkeep. Land owners may be approached in days. 20 percent signatures are required to present to the county commissioners. The petition should be done within ten days.

The Teton Sportsmen's association sets the magpie drive end date as June 15 and requires all magpies to be turned in by then.
