New Shelterbelts Should Be Cultivated
Bozeman May 6 New shelterbelt plantings should be cultivated as soon as possible after planting and as often thereafter as necessary to keep weeds and grass from growing. E E Tane extension horticulturist at Montana State College says it may be necessary to hoe through the planting once or twice during the growing season. Cultivation must be kept up each year, especially under dry land conditions, until trees grow large enough that a team and cultivator cannot be used. The longevity of the trees depends on thorough cultivation.
