The district's grade and high school wrap events from this week into next. Eighth graders held class day exercises. tonight the high school hosts prom and baccalaureate services follow Sunday with Rev James Sheerin delivering the sermon.
Mrs. R. E. Nelson was installed as president of the Choteau Woman's Club succeeding Mrs. George Thompson. Other officers named include Mrs. John Hentges as vice president and Mrs. Marion Averill as recording secretary. The ceremony was at Mrs. Nelson's home with officer Grover Forgey noting improvements at local Texaco cabins.
Herbert Foster Bailey a pioneer of Montana's Conrad area died May 13 1936 at 10 15 p m in a Conrad hospital after a ten day illness following a May 4 concussion at his home in Conrad He was born September 8 1862 in Bath New Hampshire moved to Montana in 1894 and later to Conrad He married Ina Hanson February 24 1901 and had two children Rosetta Marie and Franklin He served on the county commission 1920 1924 and held local Masonic and Oldest Settlers memberships Funeral services were held Saturday at the Conrad Presbyterian Church with Masonic honors.
City Twilight league fully organized at Burrell's club with three teams Browns Blues Blacks. Games set Mondays and Thursdays, twenty games per team, possible split at midseason if needed, diamond improvements moved home plate outward to reduce sun glare andcar reflections.
The Choteau camporee hosted eight troops with about 25 scouts each and drawn crowds of parents and officials from nearby towns. Chateau troop 51 beat Conrad troop 32 by a half point to win the camp cooking outfit, with event winners led by Conrad and Choteau across multiple competitions. The gathering featured a court of honor, outdoor worship, and a treasure hunt, with significant adult participation and a large flags display marking the event.
Billowing dust from a road improvement crew six miles east of Choteau led to a serious car collision on the Choteau Dut ton road. Injured were Mr. and Mrs Charles Hauxwell and Mrs Kate Taylor, with Mrs Taylor related to local farmer Stuart Meyers. The caterpillar operator was Olaf Johnson.
The annual junior prom will be held at Teton County High School next Friday evening May 22. The grand march starts at nine o clock. A committee led by Miss Mae Walton outlines invitations for alumni and Chateau businessmen or women, and balcony spectators pay 15 cents.
Mrs. Huffman heads Chateau unit of the American Legion auxiliary organizing Poppy Day distributions on May 23. Kathleen Waldace and Dorothy Moore split Chateau residential canvassing south of First street. Lois Hallberg and Joyce Kropp cover the Hobson addition. others lead Cowgin and business districts. Farmington Bynum Pendroy leaders coordinated with Mrs H C Huffman staff.
The Three Rivers district of the American Legion and Auxiliary gathers Saturday in Chateau with posts from Great Falls Belt Fort Benton Augusta Dutton Fairfield and nearby. A 2:30 p.m. business meeting at the Masonic hall leads to officer elections and a 7 p.m. joint banquet with speeches and music. State commander E Genzberger and state adjutant Herb Kibler are among visiting speakers. a public dance concludes the day with the Great Falls bugle and drum corps providing music.
Mayor C. W. Burns designates Saturday May 23 as American Legion Day in Choteau with the Three Riveras District convention of the American Legion and Auxiliary to be held in Chateau Memorial Poppy Day urged. Citizens and businesses urged to display flags and purchase Memorial poppies.
State Senator T. O. Larson of this city was named Tuesday at Helena as one of eight Montana delegates to the national Republican convention in Cleveland Ohio opening June 8 He and H. S. Thurston of Stanford will represent the second district Dan Whetstone of Cut Bank is a delegates-at-large Also at Helena the Democratic convention named several local attendees list included D. P. Fabrick Olga Monkman Mrs N L Stafford and others Republicans present besides Senator Larson were C S McDonald and Ed Fearon
An inch of rain fell Tuesday over the county, ending a drought relief period. The shower, recorded at the weather bureau under County Agent Fred Willson, came with hot winds easing and bringing general rainfall. Farmers and merchants welcomed the relief for spring wheat, other crops, and gardens.
W G Dauwalder county Farmers Union secretary announced the annual Farmers Union picnic will be held June 24. A W Ricker editor of the Farmers Union Herald will deliver the main address. The pace has not been decided. Chateau is expected, as in recent years.
Chateau Lions hosted the Cascade Lions on Tuesday night at their venue. J J Hannan former Chateau president came up from Great Falls. Members from Chateau included J E Taylor C W Burns Geo Jackson R B E Nelson J L Bilings J B Conlin H A Winner W W Smith and Arnold Hanusa. Entertainers were Leslie Jourdonnais John Billings and Mrs Arnold Hanusa with vocal and instrumental numbers. Bernard Toenyes could not attend due to illness.
