The Teton County High School holds commencement May 19 in the auditorium. The largest class, 49 seniors, will receive diplomas with no outside speaker. Ten students perform on the program and eight address core topics from the National Education Association framework.
The Choteau band played the final outdoor concert as part of a week of musical events on Central Avenue and Fourth Street in Falls. The Great Falls municipal band opened at 7:30 p.m. Mayor Martin Grinde spoke on music’s role in life, followed by a community sing led by Floyd Croxford. A policeman interrupted the Choteau set, ordering the band to stop so the street could open, prompting regret from Miss Lorraine Laliberte to band leader Robert Clarkson.
Surveyor Obert Peterson and Casper Peterson travel by auto to Washington to visit relatives. Obert plans a visit with his ailing mother Mrs Enoch Peterson near Stanwood while Casper plans to see his father Jay Peterson in Dellingham. They return late this week as spring county work begins.
The Teton County Sportsmen association formed at the courthouse meeting replacing the old Choteau Rod and Gun club. Officers include C. D. McDonald as president and Otto Waynild as secretary treasurer with several committees named for fish and game restoration and public relations. The group voted to affiliate with the State Sportsmen's association and to push predatory animal control.
The R F C relief effort in Teton county resumes with 31600 funds for county road work. About 10 men are finishing the Teton canyon road from the mouth to the middle fork. May work expects about 50 approved applications. prior March and April workers will be given first chance. Wages set at 2.50 per day.
The Teton County Relief committee acting under the RFC has selected 11 county youths for recommendation into the forest army funded by President Roosevelt. Names include James Zion Chateau Ben Straight Choteau Leon Sutton Choteau Roy Pratt Dutton Myron LeDesky Farmington Jim Thorn Fairfield Jim Cook Choteau Maurice Lindseth Farmington Jess Bleecker Choteau Fred Dutro Jr Choteau Stephen Webb Choteau. Some may be rejected after medical exams. if so, alternates will be chosen. Originally 51 registered, 15 met the rules: unmarried US citizens 18–25, unemployed or dependents on destitution lists, and willing to send $25 of $30 monthly to a dependent.
Arthur Hirshberg relates hearing London GSA report a tornado sweeping the South, especially Kentucky, a full day before Associated Press stories reached U.S. papers. He notes London aired at 2 AM, eight hours after local time, and says he long listens to distant stations and sometimes shares notices with them. He had previously reported to London and Madrid.
County Commissioner J A Baart clarified that $500 of the $1609 May relief funds was not for the new city water department building. He said the city labor cost is $168 and most relief money will go to road work to aid unemployed men. spending $500 in Chateau would be unfair to other areas.
Meadow Lark Country Club of Great Falls invites Choteau Country Club to its annual invitational in Great Falls. Teams of four may enter with 400 dollars per team or one dollar per person. 36 holes determine the winner with 18 holes Saturday and 18 Sunday plus a dinner dance.
Last Friday at the Catholic church in Chateau the baptism of Howard Udell Paul Jenson son of Mr and Mrs Albert H Jenson of Bynum was held. Rev William Curran conducted the service with Ellen Kelly of Bynum as sponsor.
D M Powell from Twin Lakes was down yesterday and looks forward to a strong season at the recreational resort.
The Acantha announces a month end issue commencing next week with 1700 copies distributed to rural route box holders in Choteau county and city. Officials expect broader reach for advertisers and increased readership as the official county paper. Advertisers urged to submit copy early to manage extra work and ensure delivery.
Gene Murphy arrived in Chateau from Anaconda to start a Montana law practice. He will occupy the Larson Building office once used by T. H. Pridham and Oscar Provost, with a background in Anaconda public schools, Loyola Los Angeles, Georgetown, and a recent bar admission.
Coach I. T. Kleffman takes a team of eight to Simms for an invitational meet featuring Teton, Simms, Cascade, Belt, Power, Centerville, Fort Shaw, with Great Falls possibly absent. Team members include Connore, Harmon, Yeager, Gitchel, Mozer, Folsom, and others. Centerville and Simms are favored contenders.
Sheriff J. I. Billings warns arrests and prosecutions for driving without 1933 licenses. Citizens must show evidence of license plate applications. County commissioners support a tougher stance to fund road improvements and maintenance amid ongoing violations.
The city council approved a new water department building, with completion expected by July first. Mayor C. W. Burns notes the structure is funded by water department funds rather than general taxes and that the city hall designation is not technically accurate.
A six member committee met to plan an August 2 3 4 Home Talent Chautauqua to be held in Chateau. The program will include plays skits songs and talks with tickets 50 cents for evening and 25 cents for afternoon. The project aims to foster community cooperation and recreational growth locally.
The Teton County wool pool is revived under County Agent Roberto Chiurken Earl Wood with Hei Duits and John Ventses named to a sales committee. Members may bid or sell outright and consign wool. Pool owners total 6 810 head, expected to yield about 63 060 wool rounds. pool previously peaked at 60 members and 22 000 fleeces.
Miss Jane Guthrie of his city named among 22 outstanding freshmen women at the State University Trissoula. She was pledged to Tanan-of-Spur, sophomore activity group, during the inter-scholastic track meet on Dornblazer field. Spurs had spring pledging per a new national rule, with initiation planned next fall.
