Choteau Wins Athletic Cup At County Meet

Excellent weather greeted a large crowd at the Te ton county track and field meet now in its third year. Schools excelled in penmanship drawing painting needlework weaving and other work. The two day contest featured a dramatic program in the high school auditorium. Chateau won the cup for most points with Farmington Power and Choteau high schools placing in events and exhibitions.

Alberta Ends Prohibition with Government Liquor Sale

Alberta voters approved government sale of liquor ending prohibition from 1915. The new system goes into effect Monday with government stores in many towns, hours 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. permits cost 2.00 yearly or 1.00 for beer only, and beer delivered at 4.15 per case of two dozen pints. Spirits may be kept in hotel rooms for bona fide guests. transient permits exist. clubs may obtain beer licenses.

Senate panel ends Wheeler inquiry in Montana case

By unanimous vote the senate committee closed its inquiry into Senator Wheeler without further testimony. Chairman Borah will draft the report for approval. It is expected the panel will find Wheeler did not accept a fee from Gordon Campbell to prosecute land claims before the interior department.

Deputy Collector Interviewing Local Taxpayers

A deputy connected with the United States Department of Internal Revenue interviewed local taxpayers Friday and Saturday of last week. He warned that tax enforcement would continue as he urged attention to the younger generation.

Birds and Eggs Drive Nets Big Count for Red & Gun Club

Sunday hunt organized by the Chateau Rod and Gun Club aimed to reduce predatory birds. John Moore led the winning team with 668 birds and eggs, while McDonald’s team totaled 640. State warden Jakways spoke on stocking benefits and the club set aside 25.90 to fund rewards for predatory birds.

Former Choteau Resident Dies at Whitefish Mont

Funeral services were held for Mrs. J. G. Hopkinson, a former Choteau resident, who died May 9 1924 in Whitefish Montana of paralysis. She left Choteau in 1914 with her two sons and husband who died that year. She was born April 14 1863 in Pope Mills New York and later moved to Great Falls in 1891. She leaves three siblings, two sons Joseph and Thomas and daughter Ruth Klev.

Messiah Concert to Feature 60 70 Voices in Chateau

The Messiah will be performed Thursday evening in Chateau with 60 to 70 voices. Sponsored by the Monday Musical Club and the Women's Club, the concert draws on local and visiting soloists and a large local chorus. Rankin rules on ballot printing rotation method

Attorney General Wellington D Rankin ruled that townships are the unit for rotating names on presidential primary ballots. Ballots must print names in blocks of 25 with each candidate moving up four positions per block and the first name dropping to the bottom for subsequent copies to curb alphabetical bias. The policy follows the Eighteenth legislative assembly’s law.

Clarence Davis Stenson Marries Beatrice Davis in Farmington

Clarence Stenson, a young farmer of Farmington, wed Miss Beatrice Davis a Burton teacher at the bride’s sister’s home near Keble. Rev. R B Culbertson led the ceremony at six on Sunday evening. A wedding supper followed for guests including Mr and Mrs Fred Perry, Mrs C Hansen and daughters, and the Culbertsons. The couple will reside 214 miles east of Farmington on the groom’s farm.
