Choteau Amateur Night Show Highlights Local Talent

Dona Hanberg won first prize of ten dollars at the second annual amateur night in Choteau sponsored by the Lions club. Joyce Kropp Virginia Al Jum and Margaret Peterson took second. Helen Gunderson won third. The program featured 22 numbers with strong performances from Bynum and Chateau youths including singing, dancing, and instrumental acts.

Funeral for Mrs. Anderson Sunday in Chateau

Funeral services for Mrs Esther Anderson wife of A E Anderson were held Sunday afternoon at the Latter Day Saints church in Chateau with a large crowd in attendance. Interment followed in Chateau cemetery with pallbearers named from the local community. Mrs Anderson born Esther Moose in St Anthony Idaho June 9 1893 came to Power in 1910 and later moved to Chateau with her husband and daughter Mrs Richerd Stephens. Survivors include husband daughter four sisters and four brothers and two grandchildren. Relatives from distant places attended the services.

Legion Plans Second Boxing Card and Memorial Day Observance

Chateau post of the American Legion schedules a boxing card for May 29 at Teton County High School gym. George Carroll to manage, with Strong cooperation from Great Falls groups. Memorial Day events include an afternoon assembly at the courthouse and a cemetery program with state commander Olaon delivering the main address.

Jerome Toenyes wins high honors at Montana State College

Mr and Mrs John Toenyes of Beck celebrate their son Jerome a sophomore at Montana State College Bozeman for Mothers Day observances. Jerome won the livestock judging contest earning two first place ribbons and the grand champion judge ribbon presented by President Alfred Atkinson, with his name engraved on the Atkinson trophy and a favorable writeup in The Exponent.

Wool Sales Committee Sets Saturday Meeting to Close Deals

The Teton County Wool Pool sales committee will meet at the courthouse on Saturday afternoon May 15 to close deals for wool signed up by then. Members include Earl Woods, CC Wilson Gray, Chester Chambers, Homer Rowland, and Ross Hatcher. Claude Windecker and Fred S. Willson are county agents. Dues of $1 will be deducted from wool, and bids will be accepted up to May 15.

Mrs Wixom's Dancing Pupils Recital at High School Auditorium

The dancing class of Mrs Calvin Wixom presents a Friday night recital at the high school auditorium. The program features scenes including The Magic Treasurer, Pirates Hornpipe, Novelty Numbers, Tap routines, and dances from Spain with performances by Joan Cardell, Stanley Wixom, Lola Mae Burns, Mildred Depner, June Johnson, and many others.

Choteau Bands Shine at Havre Spring Music Festival

Choteau and Chinook municipal bands and Teton county high school bands performed at Havre’s annual spring music festival. The event featured soloist Jack Shelby on cornet and two local women, Betty Jackson and Norma Tennant, on clarinet and saxophone. Irshal Davis was chosen to direct the massed band next year.

County 4 H Picnic Set for July 18 at Chateau Park

Home demonstration clubs of Teton county plan a county wide picnic in Chateau Park on Sunday July 18 for 4 H members, families and other interested residents. Mrs Ruby Relding of Farmington chairs the program and coffee and will lead local groups through a day featuring sports contests, a baseball game, and two home demonstration specials. Last year about six hundred attended the first annual event.

The 4-H Recreation Council chaired by Harry Laubach will meet at the courthouse Saturday afternoon May 15 to finalize plans for the annual picnic scheduled Sunday June 27. Lunch, program and sports will be arranged.

Lions Hear District Governor at Choteau Meeting

At the Tuesday Choteau Lions gathering district governor Frank Van Demark of Cut Bank spoke, recalling his first visit 25 years ago from Collings by horse drawn stage. He praised Lions for service aims and noted the club’s role in fostering good will between towns.

Teton County High Wins Two Track Meets

The Teton county high school track team won two more meets last week, taking first at Cascade Invitational with 44 points and at Augusta Triangular with 59. Yeager led Teton with multiple wins and high points, while Moore, Parker, and others also earned top places across sprints, jumps, throws, and relays.

Piano Pupils of Mrs Bullerdick Heard in Recital

Keeping Perspective as Dr Davis Delivers Teton HS Commencement

Dr Sheldon E Davis of State Normal College will speak at Teton County High School on May 26 with Keeping Perspective as the theme. Commencement week runs May 23 to 27 featuring baccalaureate, class night, three one act plays, and ceremony with reserved seating for graduates' relatives. Salutation by Guy Gulbrandsen and valedictory by Gordon Eckford are planned. Cleo Armstrong may substitute if Guy cannot participate.
