Oral Zumwalt, renowned for rodeo events, will again serve as arena manager for Chateau’s July 4 and 5 rodeo celebration. Contracts with Bud Lake, Kalispell, and Bob Rooker from Missoula ensure stock of bucking broncs and steers. The event, approved as a Rodeo Cowboy Association prize, offers a $300 purse plus entrance fees and points toward the national championship at Madison Square Garden.

Army Recruiting Office Opens in Choteau
An army recruiting station opened Tuesday in the Larson building Choteau with Sgt Chester L Coffing of Great Falls in charge. The office will be open weekdays 9 to 6. It aims to recruit volunteers to replace selective service and offers GI Bill education benefits to eligible students who served before the war’s end. Coffing, from Great Falls 14 years with the station, served in the 14th Army Division in Europe. He is a former Anaconda resident, married with four children, and seeks housing in Choteau.

Fairfield businessman killed by live line accident
Fairfield Telephone Co owner L Kenneth Stevenson was electrocuted Friday night while testing a fuse on a live R E A line north of Conrad during a high wind outage. Inquest ruled accidental death. Stevenson, born January 11 1919 in Douglas Arizona, served in the Army before returning to run the Fairfield company with his wife and daughter. He was active in the Lions Club church and local high school football support. Military services were held at the Community church and his burial followed in California.

Large Number Attend Methodist Rites Monday
Edna Mary Beaupre 61 daughter of Teton county’s oldest pioneer families died Thursday afternoon at the Beaupre hotel after a cerebral hemorrhage. She was laid to rest Monday at Chateau cemetery after large church services led by Rev. H. E. Engdahl. Pallbearers named. Born in Minnesota March 3 1886 she moved to Montana as a girl and attended Kinder. Continued on page eight.

Farm Tragedy Claims Second Infant Life in Fairfield Region
A Fairfield family suffered a second farm accident in a week when Robb Kind, age two, was crushed by a tractor driven by his father. The boy was taken from the yard to hospital, then to Great Falls, where he died shortly after arrival. Survived by parents a sister nine and a brother 2144 months old. Funeral services held at Croxford's mortuary with burial in Highland cemetery.
