May stickers on 1976 Montana license plates require renewal at the courthouse. May decal holders who registered earlier in the year have until May 25 to renew for a year. licenses purchased before May 25 remain valid through April 30, 1977, with annual renewals in May thereafter.
Choteau High School inducted 24 students into the National Honor Society at a banquet in the Choteau United Methodist Church with Michael Schneller serving as master of ceremonies. The ceremony included faculty participation and introductions of new members.
Teton County deputies chase a white 1964 or 1965 Chevrolet with two bullet holes across county roads Interstate 15 and nearby areas starting in Dutton at 2 40 am. Deputy Jay Scott fired two shots when the driver attempted to run him down. Sheriff Pete Howard checked Pondera County plates in Conrad as part of the investigation. The Teton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary heart monitor fund stands at 7644 35 with donations from Miller Colony LDS Relief Society and Chateau Drug Inc memorials to Martin Alzheimer Martha Gronberg and appeals for further contributions to Mrs Robert Jensen and Mrs Jack O Neil.
A special Chateau Chamber of Commerce meeting is scheduled for Tuesday May 18 at 7 a.m. at the Sip and Sup Cafe to discuss plans for the July 4 parade. All members and interested residents are urged to attend and encourage local organizations to enter floats for the Bicentennial event. A prize list and further details will follow.
The Chateau Public Schools bands will present a concert on Sunday May 9 at 8 p.m. Over 130 students participate across beginners intermediate and high school bands. The high school choir joins for the finale Make America Proud of You. Admission is 1 for adults and 50 cents for students without activity tickets.
Carol Judge wife of Governor Tom Judge and Dr. Leo Hammerlynk acting administrator will visit Chateau Activities Inc on Tuesday May 11 at 11 am as part of Region II tours of developmental disability programs. Other officials include Ron Munger and regional council members.
Chateau Firemen plan this year's July 4 fireworks display with a budget around 1300 dollars. The drive seeks wide community donations and lists donation points at Citizens State Bank Gambles Choteau Drug Isaksons Choteau Acantha and Leo's Shoe Shop for support.
The annual clean up of the rifle range south of Chateau will be held this Sunday May 9 at 9 30 a m All Sportsmen members and other interested individuals are urged to participate.
A Court of Awards for the Girl Scouts and Brownies will be held at the city pavilion on Monday May 10 at 7:30 p.m. All parents and friends are welcome to attend.
Chateau City Council discussed paying the County for police protection versus operating its own department, with costs rising from about 25 000 to 33 000 dollars. Fire Chief Sundet urged consolidating city and county fire services and attending a county meeting. The council approved several building permits and heard about Choteau Activities program and group homes.
Choteau Lions Club discussed pool operation at the last meeting. Pool manager Stan Rathman said the city is asked to help finance operating costs, with about $6000 needed for an 11 to 12 week season and a yearly deficit over $2000.
Linda Ferris and Christopher Oertel, Choteau High School graduates, each received a $1000 Frederick R. Knautz Memorial Scholarship from the Lutheran Hospitals and Homes Society of America. Scholarships were announced by Tom Dunlap of Teton Memorial Hospital, with 14 total recipients chosen.
Choteau Jaycees host a March of Dimes Walk-a-Thon this Saturday starting at 9 a.m. from Chateau High School. Walkers pledge per mile on a 10 mile triangular route with options to extend to Augusta, with Jaycees providing first aid, food and water stations and sponsor contact Steve Larson at 466-2205.
A heavy snowstorm last week adds moisture with .93 inches at the Chateau Weather Checking Station in April, .09 above normal. The report lists daily high low and precipitation for April 27 through May 3, noting .12 inches on April 28 and zero on several days.
City crews resume pile clearance in Chateau after heavy snowfall. Residents may place items beside garbage cans for removal, or haul their own waste during dump hours 2 to 5 p.m. every Wednesday and Saturday. Household items go to the airport hill dump. bulky debris to the grounds south of the city park.
Pee Wee baseball begins May 25 at 6 30 p m at the Pee Wee field. Open to boys and girls age 6 by June 1 and 8 or under. Insurance costs 2 dollars due at first practice. Bring a glove with name and wear long pants and tennis shoes.
The Teton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary hosts a May week of card games to benefit the Heart Monitor fund. Proceeds go to the fund. Hosts include Lucille Lussenden and Marjorie Cannon with bridge, Miriam Johnson with pinochle, and Sharon Engh handling reservations by phone. Each party charges 2.50 per person with desserts and prizes.
Registration for new kindergarten students entering Chateau Public Schools for the first time in the fall is scheduled Tuesday May 18 from 8 to 5 in room 41 of the grade school. Parents of students entering next fall are asked to attend during those hours.
