Convertible rollover claims one life near Choteau
Thomas Lee Phillips 40 and Robert Snodgrass 39, both recent Geophysical Service employees, were in a 1964 Chevrolet convertible traveling from Augusta toward Choteau when a curve was missed. Phillips died at the scene. Snodgrass was hospitalized with internal injuries. Patrolman Dick Chase cited excessive speed as the cause. Coroner Lee Zwerneman investigated.

Sweepstakes Winners Claim $45 in Prizes
Two contestants won a total of 45 dollars in the second of five scheduled sweepstakes drawings held Saturday afternoon in front of the Safeway Store and Ellens. Next week’s draw adds 65 dollars. first prize is 25 dollars, second 30 dollars, and third 10 dollars. Mrs. Marvin Pearson of Choteau won the 25 dollar prize. Lynn Parkett of Bynum’s 15 dollar prize went unclaimed and added to this week’s fund. Eva W. Jones of Choteau received 20 dollars for last week’s unclaimed third prize. Entries are open to anyone over 12, with in-person claim within five minutes.

Fourth of July Fireworks Fund Drive Kicks Off
The Chateau Fire Department launches this year’s fund drive for the July 4 fireworks. Mrs. Bob Dellwo of Helena started the tradition years ago, with Leo Pierre Don Hofeldt and Dick Nordhagen leading this year’s committee. About $500 is hoped to cover a display matching last year as costs rise. Fire Crews Tackle Two Blazes At Eva Terry Property
Firefighters were summoned Monday morning to the Eva Terry residence for a grass and rubbish fire that crossed a fence. A second, larger blaze later that evening involved an old building and grass along the railroad right of way, but caused no damage.

Tragedy Near Great Falls Claims Bach and Palmer
Russell W. Bach 25 and Charles L. Palmer 29, both fathers of four, died when Bach’s car left Highway 227 south of Great Falls and rolled 200 yards into a field. Bach, from Great Falls, had recently worked in a Choteau logging operation. the family had moved to Choteau two days before the crash. Survivors include an uncle and aunt, Mr and Mrs Herb Randall of Choteau. Erik Hofland, 25, of Great Falls, survived with serious injuries as the third passenger.

Frank H Sivak 66 of Pendroy Montana died Monday morning in a Conrad hospital after a stroke. Born Jan 22 1903 in Leadsburg Pennsylvania he moved to Belfield North Carolina with his parents at age six. He and his wife farmed then moved to Bynum and later Pendroy where he was General Mills Elevator assistant manager. Funeral at St Ann's Cathedral Great Falls Friday at 10 a.m. Rosary tonight at Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home at 7.
