Well Located Near Agawam Shows Promise

Prospective oil discovery near Agawam in Teton county is hinted as Phillips Freda Johnson No 1 wildcat nears Madison lime horizon. The well, north of Agawam and northeast of the General Petroleum Bouma No 1, shows tight-hole drilling with test strings and cementing. If productive, the suppressed region in Pondera and Teton counties could spark a new exploration program across about 15 square miles with no prior drilling.

Senior Class Play Slated Friday Night at Choteau High

The Choteau high school senior class presents a three act comedy Smart Boy by Dana Thomas tomorrow Friday night at 8 15 pm in the high school auditorium. Cast includes Don Phillips Barbara Mozer Dwight George Valerie Lindseth Sylvia Hanson Tom Parkett Joyce Wilson and others. Production staff led by Ray Nordhagen with numerous committees and six junior class ushers. Director is Annabelle Cruikshank.

Hanson Teen Rushed to Rochester for Illness

Charles Hanson son of Mr and Mrs Howard Hanson of Farmington and a Cha teau high school senior was flown to Rochester Minnesota last Wednesday. Doctors said the illness is an intestinal disorder not as serious as expected and may be outgrown with care. No operation needed. He was to return by plane to Great Falls last night. His parents accompanied him to Rochester and back on a Northwest Airlines transport flight.

Mayor K E Sturgis Proclaims 1950 Census for Chateau

The mayor calls on all Chateau residents to cooperate with the 17th Decennial Census beginning April 1 1950. He notes the census will affect apportionment, tax revenues, utilities, services, and population ranking and directs citizens to assist enumerators in April 1950. The city police department issues a final warning to Chateau dog owners to purchase licenses for the year. Dogs without licenses face termination. cats face a similar fate under the same notice.

Soroptimists Plan To Buy Incubator For New Hospital

The Chateau Soroptimist club has raised funds from two rummage sales to buy a $300 incubator for Teton Memorial hospital. The latest sale at Legion hall on March 25 netted $207, with some large items left to support the Chamber of Commerce hospital auction on April 15. Members thank contributors and patrons for the successful event.

Agawam Youth Karl Agee Shot At Home In Tragedy

Karl Agee 26, Agawam farmer and former Marine, was found dead near his parents' home early today after a lone shot from a souvenir pistol brought home from Iwo Jima. He was discovered around 2 am, had shown no prior signs of distress, and left no note.

Decennial Census To Start Saturday In Chateau Area

The 1950 census begins this Saturday with 70 enumerators and 7 crew leaders in seven northern Montana counties plus Teton. In Chateau, eight questions cover all individuals including name race sex age and birthplace with four dwelling queries for heads of households. A sample of persons will answer additional questions on employment and prior residence.

Eight Permits Granted At March Council Meet

The city council approved eight building and improvement permits at its March meeting in City Hall. Discussion covered a proposed city sewage disposal plant and a septic tank study, with plans to report after warmer weather. Also debated was a street sign project as Eddie Howard presented. A B Guthrie principal emeritus of Teton county high school was awarded honorary life membership by the Chateau Lions club. Dr H W Bateman presented the certificate on February 28 1950 and lauded Guthrie for community service while noting he nearly became a charter member. MsU Singers To Visit Choteau For April 20 Program

Montana State University singers bring a 60 voice a cappella chorus and Jubil ees and a men's quartet to Choteau High School auditorium on Thursday night April 20. Proceeds from ticket sales will fund Choteau band uniforms. The Choteau PTA handles tickets and sleeping quarters are being arranged by the American Legion auxiliary.

Bishop Daniels Missed Helena Service Due to Road Trouble

Episcopal Bishop Henry H. Daniels of Helena reported he could not officiate at Chateau last Sunday because a young driver unfamiliar with the roads got lost. A storm and delay in returning to the proper road prevented his arrival in Choteau, and he apologized to parishioners.

Wilson Gray Returns Home After Burns Ore Car Wreck

Wilson Gray has returned to his home at Gallatin Gateway after injuries from a car wreck in Burns Oregon. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Payette Idaho and released last Saturday. His back remains in bad condition and he has lost weight.
