Dial Telephone Service Opens in Chateau Next Tuesday

H C Henderson of Mountain States Telephone announces dial service will begin at 6 am March 28 for 560 Chateau subscribers. Manual phones are replaced by automated dial switching in a new building with numbers to be changed and a new directory issued before the conversion. Calls to Great Falls or long distance require operator use via dial 0.

Teton County Census Shows Big 1948 Trade Increase

Preliminary Census of Business figures for Teton county Montana reveal large gains in 1948. Retail sales totaled 7.6 million up from 2.1 million in 1939, while wholesale sales reached 10.5 million versus 1.8 million in 1939. Service receipts were 130 thousand versus 38 thousand, with 330 paid employees in 1948 up from 181 in 1939.

Preparations are complete for the Young Timers annual banquet at Legion hall Saturday night at 7 with a community sing and a dance at 9 Tickets remain available. Merchandise Shoot On Hill At Chateau Trap Club

The Chateau Trap club hosts a merchandise trap shoot on the golf course hill this Sunday with Easter hams and chickens as prizes. Early winners are handicapped to level odds and shooters who enter five times without a win receive a free chicken.

Hospital Fund Nears Goal for New Teton Memorial Building

The Teton Memorial hospital fund drive reports $15,964 raised with $10,000 more needed by May 1 to complete equipment funding. The building is near completion with 59 rooms and plaster work finished. Flying Guatamalan Express lands in Choteau with NAAC team

The 3000 mile trip ends as NAAC pilot Bob Waltermire and Guatemalan airman Ricardo Luna arrive in Choteau aboard a Ford Tri motor purchased from Aviateca Co. Luna, 27, is Aviateca’s assistant chief mechanic. The plane will be used for spraying and baiting in local agriculture.

Two-Room Cabin Burned In Chateau Fire

A two room Buck cabin owned by Dave Buchanan was gutted by a Tuesday morning fire at Chateau. Pete Peterson, the sole occupant, escaped by jumping through a shattered north window as flames engulfed the structure. The loss, about 3000 dollars, left the frame building a total ruin despite insulation saving the roof.

College Chorus To Perform At High School

Montana State college concert chorus presents a varied program at the Chateau high school auditorium at 2 pm next Tuesday. The first section features Wake Awake Nunc Dimittis and Kingdom of God. The second section offers melodies from many lands with soloists Marjorie Davidson and John Stewart. The third section showcases the men's octet with listed members. The full chorus closes with Manna From Heaven Advent Motet and Beautiful Savior with Colleen Jones solo. The group also appears at Fairfield high school at 10 am the same day.
