Farmers Seek Road Construction Status From County Board

A Farmington and Agawam gathering asked the Teton county board of commissioners about feeder road upgrades. They urged priority for the Choteau Farmington route, noting past delays as Dutton Choteau and other roads advance.

Mrs. Susan Emma McManus Rites Set in Choteau

Funeral services are planned for Susan Emma McManus 57 of Choteau at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Choteau Methodist church with Rev. H L Engdahl and O E S chapter 97 of Augusta officiating. She died Tuesday in Great Falls after a long illness. burial will be in Choteau Cemetery. She was born August 6 1893 in Augusta and married William McManus June 29 1920 in Livingston. She is survived by her husband son William Henry Jr sisters Ida May Key and Jessie Cottle Bickett brother Henry J Cottle and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Tom Liscum George Seufert Bob Miller John Kelley Cliff McBinney and John Edrel.

Large Group Attends Service for Van Scherpenzeel

One of the largest funeral crowds in Choteau’s history, about 400 people, gathered at the Choteau Methodist church last Saturday to honor 29 year old Robert Van Scherpenzeel who died in an automobile accident. The service, directed by Rev. H. L. Engdahl with Rev. A. B. Gravdal and the Chateau VFW, featured numerous floral tributes and ended with burial at Chateau cemetery.

Comedy Play Slated As Benefit for Band

Old Time Dance Plans Advance for April Benefit

Plans for a public old time hospital benefit dance on Friday night April 14 solidify. Admission is 1 per person with dancing at the Legion pavilion in Chateau starting at 9 p.m. Door prizes will be awarded. Tickets are on sale at Choteau Drug and Malone's Pharmacy. Residents near Choteau are reminded of the public auction for Teton Memorial hospital while Ed Obernolte collects auction items at Chateau Coast to Coast. Rifle Club Meet At Chateau Moose Hall

A meeting is planned next Wednesday at 8 p m in Chateau Moose hall to organize a rifle club affiliated with the National Rifle Association. Admission urged for pistol and rifle enthusiasts and discussion of an outdoor range for .30 caliber rifles. The government will provide rifles and some practice ammunition under the plan.

Good Friday three hour service at Trinity Lutheran Chateau

The second annual three hour Good Friday service opens Friday at noon at Trinity Lutheran Church in Chateau. Annabelle Cruikshank will speak from 12 to 12 50 with others aiding devotions and music. Speakers, devotions, and music rotate through 1 to 3 pm with Pastor A B Gravdal leading. Holy Communion at 8 pm closes the day with community lighted cross vigil east of the city airport.

Hattie Wagnild Retires From Local Phone Company

Hattie M Wagnild retires after 28 years with Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph in Chateau from Aug 7 1919 start. The exchange grew from 258 to 560 phones. she was chief operator and active in church, Eastern Star, and the Woman's Club. A dinner in Great Falls honored her with a handbag presentation. She and Otto Wagnild plan to stay in Chateau as he remains a state field supervisor.

Cost for New Grade School Discussed by Treasurer

Choteau residents would pay an average of 7.50 dollars yearly for 20 years to fund a proposed 190000 dollar grade school building. County treasurer G E Monkman outlined an amortization plan with a 7.4 mill levy yielding about 13342 dollars annually and 254009 dollars over two decades, including interest. Supt R C Graham said 118 signatures are needed on petitions before a vote and checks are being made on both grade and high school petitions for proper qualification.

Hollar and Monkman Re-elected to Cho teau School Board

Earl Hollar and C Gibson Monkman were re elected for three year terms as Cho teau district 1 trustees at the grade school election last Saturday afternoon. Hollar 114 votes Monkman 90 votes with 65 write ins for three men. Final totals show 143 votes this year up from 46 last year per clerk Bill Olsen.

Choteau Band to Receive New Uniforms for Havre Festival

Choteau high school band orders new uniforms funded by the PTA to outfit the group for the Havre music festival this spring. Each outfit includes a gold and maroon shako hat with plume, maroon military coats, grey and gold trousers, and a drum major's uniform.

Barbara Fleshman Named as Dutton Girls State Delegate

Barbara Fleshman daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Fleshman Sr of Dutton has been chosen as a delegate to Girls State. Sponsored by Freeborn Unit No 64 of the American Legion auxiliary she will go to Billings in June for a week of learning how government is run by participation. Darlene Nelson is named as alternate.

Methodist Chorus Recital Amid Good Friday Services

The Choteau Methodist Church will host a sacred concert tomorrow at 8 p.m. as part of 24 hour Good Friday observances. A 50-voice mixed choir directed by Vernon Alf and accompanied by Mrs. Marian Averill will perform including Prelude by Mrs. Averill and Lamb of God arranged by Christianson.

The Choteau Chamber of Commerce announced that all business houses will close tomorrow from 12 noon to 3 PM to observe Good Friday. Chamber president Hugh Reid said the three hour closing gives employers and employees a chance to participate in the observance.

Kid's Egg Hunt Set Saturday At Two Places

Chateau children and all city youngsters are invited this Saturday at 2 pm for the annual Easter egg hunt. Prizes cash donations and free theater tickets accompany the eggs as Chateau merchants and the Chamber of Commerce sponsor the event. Boy scouts will collect eggs for distribution to hunting grounds. Ages 1 day to 5 hunt on the courthouse lawn while ages 6 to 11 search the city park. The fire siren signals the start. Eggs marked with business names lead to extra prizes at designated locations.
