CHS Science Students Shine at State Science Fair
Chateau high school students impressed at the First State Science Fair in Missoula. Lee Foxworthy won third grand prize with a Tornado Chamber exhibit earning a gold medal and a Spitz planetarium. Ronald Burgess won first place with The Theremin in atomic energy earning a gold pin and chemistry handbook. Iris Hughes took second with Testing for Positive and Negative Ions in chemistry and a handbook. Arlene Depner received honorable mention in the ae division. Darlene Shelmerdine’s The Story of Pulp and Paper earned honorable mention in conservation. Dale Depner’s Wood: Its Kinds and Uses and Joyce Henderson’s The Culture and Growth of Molds received honorable mention in botany. Philip Young earned bronze for Toothpaste and Tooth Decay in medicine and physiology. Janet Clark’s Embalmed Cats earned first prize. Continued on page 4.

Geo Henneford Father of Local Merchant Dies
George J. Henneford aged 77, father of Walter Henneford of this city, died at a Chateau hospital after a lingering illness. Born February 26, 1879 in Vera Cruz Indiana, he married Nettie Meyer on July 4 1900 at Decatur Indiana. He moved to Montana in 1912, homesteaded near Carter and later served as undersheriff in Fort Benton. He had resided with a daughter in Dutton since 1948. wife died in 1931. Survivors include son Walter and daughter Romaine Rossmiller, Dutton, and sister Mrs Dan Niblick Decatur.

Five Choteau girls earned places in an invitational practice declamation meet at Choteau High School with 40 speakers from six schools including Conrad Great Falls High Great Falls Central Cut Bank Shelby and Choteau. Great Falls Central had 14 places Great Falls High four Cut Bank five Shelby one and Choteau one. There were 25 first places awarded after ties. Participants Sharon Jones Allum Maxine Snyder Myrtle Rose and Ruth Swanson competed in three rounds at 10 30 11 30 and 1 30 with Sharon Jones earning a first and a second place Allum a third and Maxine Snyder a third.

Fire Threatens Frontier Motel
A fire destroyed the interior of two apartments at the Frontier Motel late Wednesday and was brought under control by Chateau Fire Department. The blaze spread from apartment No 9 to 10, burned into the attic of the south wing, but did not ignite rafters due to mineral insulation. No damage estimate is yet available.

FFA Buys Purebred Gilts for Swine Project
The Chateau FFA chapter bought two registered Duroc gilts from Bruce Hensley to begin a revolving swine project. The litter mates to a Grand Champion Duroc shown in Bozeman last week will form the foundation for developing quality Duroc swine in the local chapter.

Teton County Pair Escape Serious Injury in Accident
William Bil Perry of Chateau and Darlene Larkin of Fairfield escaped serious harm when Perry lost control on Highway 89 near Vaughn. The convertible plunged into a borrow pit. both were treated at a Great Falls hospital with bruises and cuts.

Chateau school budgets hinge on smaller mill levy for 1956 57
Supt Ed Schiller announced the 1956 57 budgets for Chateau schools show a total of 85 760 25 for the high school and 102 550 for the elementary, each with about a three mill special levy. Enrollment gains raise state foundation funds, allowing levy cuts despite higher budgets. Election day is Saturday April 6 for voters in District No 1 and the elementary districts within the Chateau high school district.

Not Guilty Pleas in Two County Cases At Durr Ranch
Duane Alexander age 41 pleads not guilty to first degree assault after an attempt on Don Lussenden at the Durr Ranch on March 17. Bail set at 1000, he posted and awaits trial on April 30. Durum Wheat Increase Program Launched in Montana Counties
Montana farmers in 33 counties may join the 1956 Durum wheat increase program authorized by Public Law 431. State ASC officer Leo S. Kolstad announced that eligible counties must have produced Durum class II for food products in the past five years and outlines per acre and allotment rules for planting Durum, along with varieties excluded and the process to obtain Conditional Allotment Notifications from county ASC offices.

Frisells Buy Choteau House Important Local Real Estate Deal
Russell W and Rosemary Frisell completed a major purchase of the Choteau House area in the city center from C E Babe Russell for a price reported over 80 000. The deal includes eight cottages, Penguin Cafe, Chick's Appliance store, LaRance's Barber shop and the Choteau Bar with apartments above, plus modernized Russell Building offices.
