Stockman's Flying Service Cleans Coyotes Over Teton County

The Stockman's Flying service led by Ora Lohse and Alfred Shelmerdine has killed about 60 coyotes in eight weeks over Teton county using Aeronca and cub planes. They target dens and prairies with shotguns to protect sheep, preserve pelts for the sheepmen's association, and tally kills by ear removal when pelts are poor. Weather and winds hinder hunting, with a state trapper handling unreachable coyotes. Shelmerdine, from Bynum, and Lohse, from Helena, organized the operation in December and January respectively, with a new plane on the way.
