Sale of Building To District Will Be Voted

Trustees of the local high school district will seek authorization to issue bonds up to 60000 to purchase the old Teton county high school building. Voters will decide at the April 3 election at the Chateau public school. The incumbent Tom Liscum’s term ends and a special 12 mill levy will also be on the ballot.

District 1 to seek 12 mill levy for school funding

Trustees of District 1 vote at a regular meeting to ask taxpayers for a 12 mill special levy, down from 15 mills last year due to savings in building upkeep. District gains $265,000 in taxable value from absorbing nearby districts, with higher high school enrollment enabling more revenue. A vocational agriculture course will be added next year, needing another instructor.

Teton County High School District a planned consolidation

The board reviewed a proposed high school district comprising Cha teau Farmington Agawam Pendray Bynum and areas south to the Augusta county line. Estimated district valuation runs around 3 million dollars with 60 000 dollars in bonds to be paid over 20 years requiring under two mills. Appraisers valued the old Teton county high school at 48 000 dollars with at least 12 000 more needed for lights resurfacing floors and equipment.

Tax Auditor to Aid Helena Taxpayers Next Thursday

State income tax auditor R. S. Ross of Helena will be at the courthouse in Chateau next Thursday March 25 to collect state income taxes and assist taxpayers in preparing returns if they file 1947 returns now. The State Board of Equalization would not impose penalties.

Montana State College Symphony to Play in Choteau

The Montana State College Symphony Orchestra from Bozeman travels on a spring tour to Great Falls Helena Fort Harrison Lewistown Stanford and Choteau where it performs at the high school auditorium Friday night at 8 30 p m. The 55 piece orchestra includes a string quartet brass sextet and vibraharp soloist with E P Sedivy directing. Admission is free. The program features works by Smetana Flotow Tchaikovsky Still Offenbach Brahms along with various encores.

Homes Needed For Children Says Warneke

The Teton county Welfare department says a state technicality bars placing children under Child Welfare custody in the Twin Bridges orphan’s home. About 100 children aged 4 to 16 must be released to foster homes immediately, and local foster homes are urgently needed. County Welfare invites interested homes to apply.

Three Army Men Smash Up Car In Fairfield Wreck

A 1935 Nash carrying three Great Falls army east base soldiers wrecked one mile east of Fairfield on the Fairfield Great Falls highway. Cpl William H Lesnicki was seriously hurt and sent to Letterman hospital. Pvt Herbert Silva lost seven teeth and Pvt Joe Perry was scratched.
