Trustees of the local high school district will seek authorization to issue bonds up to 60000 to purchase the old Teton county high school building. Voters will decide at the April 3 election at the Chateau public school. The incumbent Tom Liscum’s term ends and a special 12 mill levy will also be on the ballot.
Trustees of District 1 vote at a regular meeting to ask taxpayers for a 12 mill special levy, down from 15 mills last year due to savings in building upkeep. District gains $265,000 in taxable value from absorbing nearby districts, with higher high school enrollment enabling more revenue. A vocational agriculture course will be added next year, needing another instructor.
The board reviewed a proposed high school district comprising Cha teau Farmington Agawam Pendray Bynum and areas south to the Augusta county line. Estimated district valuation runs around 3 million dollars with 60 000 dollars in bonds to be paid over 20 years requiring under two mills. Appraisers valued the old Teton county high school at 48 000 dollars with at least 12 000 more needed for lights resurfacing floors and equipment.
County meetings set by the Teton extension agent and the Agricultural Conservation committee to explain and outline the 1948 agricultural conservation program. Farm price supports and outlook to be discussed. Sessions begin 1 30 p m with a schedule listing eight locations and dates.
Choteau leads the Red Cross fundraiser in Teton county with a first report of 360.50 dollars. Campaign chair Mrs G L Banks says the residential drive is ongoing and solicitors are listed for nearby communities including Dutton Farmington Agawam and Fairfield.
State income tax auditor R. S. Ross of Helena will be at the courthouse in Chateau next Thursday March 25 to collect state income taxes and assist taxpayers in preparing returns if they file 1947 returns now. The State Board of Equalization would not impose penalties.
The Montana State College Symphony Orchestra from Bozeman travels on a spring tour to Great Falls Helena Fort Harrison Lewistown Stanford and Choteau where it performs at the high school auditorium Friday night at 8 30 p m. The 55 piece orchestra includes a string quartet brass sextet and vibraharp soloist with E P Sedivy directing. Admission is free. The program features works by Smetana Flotow Tchaikovsky Still Offenbach Brahms along with various encores.
The Teton Citizens Committee on Education schedules a March 24 meeting at the Choteau grade school. Leo Murphy explains the Helena state program and outlines plans to raise about $200 toward a $15,000 state fund for the coming school legislation and improvement measures. John Dunckel chairs the county education committee with Murphy as secretary and delegate.
Sheriff A O Peterson said no bounty will be paid for coyotes this year as the legislature did not appropriate funds. Trappers traditionally bring in coyote pelts in April May and June, but there will be no monetary reward this season.
Mar ton Amos of Butte a sophomore will be featured as flute soloist in the college symphony orchestra concert at Choteau Friday night. The program includes a string quartet brass sextet and vibraphone artist for encore selections, with the concert starting at 8 30 pm tomorrow night.
The Teton county Welfare department says a state technicality bars placing children under Child Welfare custody in the Twin Bridges orphan’s home. About 100 children aged 4 to 16 must be released to foster homes immediately, and local foster homes are urgently needed. County Welfare invites interested homes to apply.
U S Public Health Service approved Teton Memorial Hospital for the federal aid hospital construction plan, entitling one third matched funds. The drive reached 34 597 35 with 40 000 goal and 5 402 65 still needed before bids. Community contributions included a hospital benefit dance and steer share sales raising funds.
The Choteau Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its annual Easter egg hunt for kids on Saturday March 27. Pat Granger chamber president says merchants will be asked to donate eggs and prizes. All youngsters are invited to participate in the early afternoon event.
The St. Stephen's Episcopal Guild donated $100 from its treasury to Teton Memorial Hospital this week. The guild will hold its meeting at Mrs. E. Byrne's home on Thursday afternoon March 25.
The Choteau Chamber will meet next Thursday night March 25 for its annual meeting and officer elections. President Pat Granger urges all local business men to attend as a dinner meeting is planned.
St Josephs Catholic Church of Chateau will host a lunch and food sale this Saturday March 20 to support Teton Memorial Hospital All proceeds go to the hospital The sale begins at 1130 a m at the Old Legion club rooms under the Chateau Drug Co store Plates cost 75c for adults and 50c for children.
L Swan the Montana representative of the World Loyal Order of Moose will attend a Chateau Moose Lodge meeting Friday night March 19 at 8 p m The event features shows of The Childs City and Young America about Moosehart Ill a child welfare project A social hour follows with a buffet lunch served by the ladies and inviting Moose members to bring guests
The Choteau trap club sponsors a public shoot on the golf course hill in Choteau this Sunday starting about 11 a.m. Prizes include hams chickens and merchandise. Weather permitting the event lasts until afternoon. Marksmen from across the county are invited to participate.
A 1935 Nash carrying three Great Falls army east base soldiers wrecked one mile east of Fairfield on the Fairfield Great Falls highway. Cpl William H Lesnicki was seriously hurt and sent to Letterman hospital. Pvt Herbert Silva lost seven teeth and Pvt Joe Perry was scratched. The car, owned by Merl W Ives, was driven off base without permission. intoxication noted and army prosecutors possible after injuries heal.
The second round of the Dutton Cho eau trophy trap shoot is slated for Sunday April 4 at Dutton. Trap club members are urged to attend and those needing transportation should consult Al Barton, president of the Choteau Trap club.
