As spring weather returns, local road projects prepare to restart. The Nulsson-Smith Co on the Dutton road, and Thos Staunton, also on Dutton road, are expected to resume soon. The Sun River bridge on the Choteau Augusta road and the Loweree canal project are awarded to S. Birch & Son. Engineers reopen field work on highway 89 reroute from Fairfield to Lange's corner, shaping a Mill curve route with two bends over 13 miles, eliminating Ashuelot and Langey hills and shifting the northern end to a county road east of Fairfield.

The Chateau Racketeers beat the Great Falls Brewers 35 to 23 at the local high school gym. Wally Wendt was absent for the Brewers and Loomis led Chateau with three field goals and three points. The game saw a strong third quarter run by Chateau, ending with a 29 13 advantage after three periods. Brewers shot well from the line but fell short overall. County Superintendent Inez Eckford attends a Helena conference and will join the M E A delegates in Great Falls Friday for the 14th district assembly on March 3 and 14.

Swedes versus Harlemites Set for March 21 Match
In Chateau two professional teams the New York Harlemites and Olson's Terrible Swedes meet for the second time under sponsor Teton county high school. Proceeds go to the student association fund. Last year overtime decided the winner in a sensational contest. Both teams have beaten the Chateau Racketeers amid strong crowds.

Miner Charles Preston Killed by Rock at Oertel Mine
Charles Preston a 34 year old miner and ranch hand was crushed by a 490 pound rock at the Oertel coal mine north of Pendroy while working alone. He died instantly or nearly so. Funeral set for 2 PM at the Chateau Methodist church with Coroner Eddie Wyse in charge.

Agricultural Economic Conference Recommends County Land Use Plan

A Washington dispatch dated March 8 reports that Congressman Roy Ayers has recommended Gibson Monkman for the Chateau postmaster position. The term of current postmaster G C Core expires April 27. Core notes office moves and receipts rising from about 5000 to 8000 annually. Monkman’s appointment is temporary until civil service exam results.
