The register completes enrollment of men 18 to 65. those turning 20 will become subject.
The first July meeting moved from Friday July 3 to Thursday July 2 at 7 p m to align draft numbers with the class on file. Officials note 18 and 19 year olds cannot be called under current rules though amendments are being discussed by military and congressional leaders. Roy Morgan chairing the county war board reports adequate lumber in county yards to build granaries for this year’s crop. He notes 85 percent of the harvest will be stored on farms, but current storage is only about half of that need. War Production Board changes allow sale of lumber for farm storage as lumbermen expect to fulfill farmer orders in coming weeks.
The Farmers Union Local 404 in Pendroy invites all residents to a pie social and card party at the Pendroy hall on Wednesday evening July 1. Attendees are asked to bring a pie.

At the Cha teau Lions club regular session President Geo Jackson announced officers will be installed at the next meeting and urged 100 percent attendance. Reports from the Edmonton Alberta international convention were given by John Hentgas Dr H W Bateman and L E Taylor. A copper Lion book end gift was presented to R E Nelson for 15 consecutive years of perfect attendance.
Beginning Tuesday June 23 the story hour for children opened at the Chateau library. The event runs at 10 a m with a brief program for youngsters.
The recorder’s office saw heavy filing as candidates rushed to meet the deadline last Saturday. Key contests include treasurer and sheriff, with Tom Dellno J L Billings and J R Collins seeking the sheriff Democratic nomination while Albert O. Peterson seeks the Republican renomination.
John Dale head of civilian defense calls first meeting for Monday June 29 at 7 p m in the courthouse. Officials and public urged to attend. Two hours devoted to civilian defense instruction school. Wm Ferguson director from Helens will give a talk and show films.
