The Choteau swim team begins its 1977 season this Sunday, June 26, with a 39-event relay meet. Coach Wayne Krahe sent invitations to 12 area teams. participation is not yet known. The roster features 46 swimmers across five age groups and includes a unique 350 yard mixed distance freestyle.
City calls residents to donate to join a coalition of Texas towns in hiring lawyers against flood plain designation. Choteau may pay up to 2000 dollars toward the effort, with donations urged at the city office to fund the fight against federal designation harming one third of the town’s development.
Funeral services were held Saturday June 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church for Robert G. Thorn 86 who died June 16 at Teton Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Rev James Engh officiated with music by Joan Scott organist and Carol Ekegren vocalist. Burial was at Chateau Cemetery. Thorn born October 9 1890 in Scandinavia Wisconsin came to Spring Valley area in 1912 to farm. He married Frieda Bremer in 1916 who preceded him in death. Survivors include sons John Thorn Bigfork Harry Thorn Cut Bank daughters Ann Kronberg Prineville Elsie Sullivan Sedro Woolley Mabel Mainard Burlington 12 grandchildren 9 great grandchildren brothers Irving Salem Walter Scandinavia Anton Las Cruces and sister Julia Ryerson Laverne

Five grain trucks and a mechanic vehicle left Teton County early Sunday June 12 heading to Lewiston Idaho on a protest against high freight rates. Helena hosts 21 trucks from other counties and officials express support while noting farmers’ plight. The convoy passed Missoula and Coeur d Alene with minimal issues aside from engine trouble and a brief collision, then continued toward Lewiston.

The Alfred L. Heckerman Memorial Parcourse began Sunday June 19 in Choteau City Park. Built by the Big Sky Bears 4-H Club with help from 4-H parents and Kiwanis, the project uses logs from the Forest Service and bridge timber from the county road department.
Montana homeowners have less than two weeks to file for the Homestead Property Tax Relief Act. Governor Thomas L. Judge urges all eligible owner occupants to submit the simple form at their county court houses by June 30, 1977 to receive about $100 in reduced property taxes.

At Tuesday’s chamber meeting leaders Gary Durocher and Tom Dunlap were named co chairmen of the July 4 parade. Discussions covered off street parking behind Jensen Agency, bus service updates, peddler concerns, and plans to promote Chateau to tourists.
