4-H Picnic Draws 1100 in Teton County Park
The annual 4-H county picnic at Dutton Lions club park drew about 1,100 attendees from all communities. After a 1 PM dinner, a program featured band music, singing and speeches by delegates from Sun River, Bynum, Farmington and other areas, plus National 4-H Congress delegates Evelyn Hodgskiss and Lydia Menghini. Awards covered boys and girls events, a women’s tug of war, and a Sun River project baseball game ending 11 to 2 in favor of other clubs.

Forest Ranger George Duvendack curates a collection of Hugh Snider photographs showing elk tagging work in the Sun River area. The exhibit includes newborn elk portraits enlarged by W. A. Emerick and explains ear tagging phases. About 95 calves were tagged this season to study migration habits across the continental divide between Flathead and Sun rivers.

Next Band Concert Saturday at City Office Corner
The Chateau Municipal band schedules a free street concert Saturday evening June 25 at 7 o clock. It will be held at the intersection of First Avenue West and First Street North near the city office with a program of marches overtures waltzes and sacred pieces including New Harford Meyers Billboard Klohr Mignonette Dark Town Strutters Ball King Cotton U S Marines and Adeste Fideles among others. Mrs. Henry Freeman left for Warren Oregon after telegram announcing the death of her stepfather Peter C. Johnson from an automobile accident Sunday near Portland. Johnson had married the mother of Freeman Louis Hallberg and Emil Johnson, all local residents, who had visited here in the past.

Husband Visits Choteau In Sheriff Campaign Effort
W C Bill Husband Republican candidate for United States Congress in Montana second district spent Tuesday in Choteau and toured county areas in support of his bid. A 56 year old lawyer, he grew up on a North Dakota farm, studied at the University of North Dakota law school, opened a practice in Harlowton in 1908, and served as Wheatland County attorney and state senator. He is married with three university graduated children.

Herder Killed by Lightning on Birch Creek Range
Frank LaRoque 38 a Hamilton Sheep Co. herder died Monday in Maynard hospital from injuries and exposure after a lightning strike during a Thursday storm while tending sheep on Birch Creek 15 miles north on the Blackfeet reservation. He was found Saturday after a search. his body transported to Lewistown for funeral services.

Rev Vick Heads to State Conference Return Hope at Chateau
Rev Vick and Mrs Vick left Tuesday for the annual state conference of the Methodist church in Billings. No church services will be held next Sunday beyond Sunday school while he is away. The pastor hopes to return for the coming year but notes church mergers may cause shifts in pastorates. He thanked the community for support and kindness during the past year and spoke of continuing faith in the town’s bright future.
